I was on my way to the supermarket today and on a chair in the supermarket in front of everyone a woman was breast feeding her baby.I think breast feeding is fine and perfectly natural but not infront of hundreds of people. She wasn't a bit descreet and I had to turn away quickly.Breast feeding is fine but not in public.

why shouldn't it be in public? if she was sat there feeding the baby with a bottle you wouldn't have a problem. if the baby is hungry what do you expect her to do?!
I've never been bothered with breast feeding but some people should understand that some people do not like it shoved in their faces. Yes it is Natural but so is going for a pee but you would see me doing that in the middle of a shopping aisle. There is always somewhere you can go to do it a bit more privately. Yes a baby needs feeding when it needs it but it also needs changing too and people can always find discreet places to do that.
why did you have to turn away?
I think breast feeding is perfectly acceptable in public - why should anybody feel uncomfortable or embarrased by the most natural thing in the world?
sorry I meant you wouldnt see me doing that :-)
i dont think there is anything wrong in breast feeding in public as long as its an emergency like if youre not back home in time and baby wont wait any longer, and as long as its discreet, the mother placing a scarf or something so we cant see the breast. i'm not a prude or anything but am a bit ebarredssed about it, but i do understand sometimes it has to be done and thats ok . its the women who make a big show of it unessasary that i dissaprove of
Are people honestly that afraid of a boob? Never seen one before?

Would you rather the baby screamed the place down because it wasn't getting fed?

Jeez.

Some people are embarassed. Especially old people tend to be offended in some way. I just think if the mother doesnt want to upset or make a show then there are always places to go. I'm with devilwomen on this I dont like the women that make a show of it unnecessarily that winds me up.

I've suppose I've seen quite a few women, people I know and complete strangers, breastfeeding and I can honestly say I couldn't care less. If they're happy to do it in public, more power to their er... elbows.

People are always eating in public ~ to be honest I would much rather see a baby having it's lunch than an adult munching on a big fat greasy burger!

I breastfed all my children (in public if they needed it) but usually managed to cover up the majority of the time with the aid of a muslin square cloth. Of course there are times when you expose a little more than you want to..but what's the problem?

There are breasts displayed on the front of magazines and newspapers all the time. A baby having it's lunch the way nature intended certainly shouldn't offend anyone. If it does then the offended person has serious issues...

Public breastfeeding is fine in my opinion. I have no problem with it at all, its the natural way to feed a baby. I may feel uncomfortable but thats my own thought because I know i couldnt breastfeed in public, mainly due to the views of other people like you. Breast fed young babies tend to demand feed so it can be difficult to time your everyday chores etc to fit around a newborn and thus keep the anti breast feeders happy.

There is no problem with a baby bottle feeding in public is there? Would anyone complain if that bottle contained breastmilk? so its not the feeding or the milk thats in question. The problem with society is that the breast is now a sexual organ rather than the means for feeding a child. This causes embarassment amongst the person who sees a mother breastfeeding but do you think that the mother was at all fussed? She was doing what comes naturally to her and her baby.

OK so you dont want to be in a position where you are forced to view it, who would be, but you had the choice to walk away from it? to say 'not in public' is a bit much in my opinion though. Mothers should not be forced into toilets and restrooms to feed their children. If they are then i would suggest that they start changing their children in the restaurants on the tables. If you expect the babies to eat in a toilet then you should expect to do the same.

I answered a question about this somewhere else the other day. I have breastfed both my kids in public and never gave a stuff what other people thought. A hungry baby needs feeding, simple as. If people dont like it then they should look away. Pippa I am in total agreement with you, I too would much rather see a baby feeding than some greedy adult slobbering over a mcd's in public.
It's also very strange how the peope, who complain about it are the ones who noticed it in the first place ~ then continue to stare and tut!

This idea that breast feeding is the most natural thing in the world is so weak that it should just be ignored.Sex is just as natural but you wouldn't do that is a supermarket.I do not want to see a woaman breast feeding her baby and thankfully she was politely asked to use the public toilet to feed the baby.Breast feeding is not acceptable in public.I guess if they put a blanket over their baby when doing it and did it discreetly I would not mind but this lady had both out in view of everyone. I will not feed my baby in public like that.

As others have mentioned, feeding is a social activity for adults and children alike. The prudish hangover from the Victorian period is the real problem here.

A hungry baby needs feeding and whilst many mothers organise their time efficiently most of the time, sometimes we get caught out and the baby feed needs to take precedence at such moments.

Local councils and large stores have been more effective at providing baby changing rooms, but what mother would want to feed her baby in a room full of dirty nappies?

sexy russian. If you went to a restaurant and they offered you a table in the toilets, would you take it??

Feed a baby in the public toilet? I have never heard anything so preposterous in my life (apart from some of your other questions & answers sexyrussian)

Having sex in public is a totally different argument ~ and a stupid one at that. I don't like seeing people snogging in public (gay or straight ~ still don't like it) but I wouldn't go up to a couple & ask them to go away. I just wouldn't look.

Everyone uses a toilet to pee. Everyone eats in public. Why should a baby be any different? I was feeding my baby on demand (as you should) so there was no way I would be bothered to take her into a cubicle somewhere every 30 minutes!

Yet again you show just how blinkered, immature & pathetic you really are, dear.
