i have a wee white box that has one end that goes into the wall where my phone used to be plugged in, and the other end of the white box (2 inches x 3inches) has 2 places for the phone line and the computer. Whats it called?

Also, if my phone goes when i am on the computer, it breaks the connection, even though that wee white box was supposed to stop that happening. Is it because i also have a phone outlet in another room? Will i need another wee white box for that, even though there is nothing to plug into it? Sorry this is rambling.

I suppose that you mean a splitter which is like the ones shown here , it basically separates the phone signal from the modem signal and yes you MUST have one on each telephone for the system to work correctly.
However If the other telephone outlet is not in use you should not need another splitter.

Make sure that the modem and the telephone are plugged into the correct outlet sockets on the splitter, if yes and you still have trouble contact your ISP.
