An Agency Is Asking Me For Loads Of My Information....

....such as DBS Certificate, passport photo, utility bills/council tax bill/ Driver’s License/ bank statement/ dated within the last 3 months, National Insurance, references, passport……and the list goes on even before any jobs are put to me. I replied back with, “Until a bona fide job offer is made, I can't supply what's stipulated below. Please run past me all the roles you have and I'll let you know what's most applicable to me", but the reply came back with, "I apologise however since we are a recruitment agency we are not permitted to give out job vacancies to those who not enrolled in our system. If you wish to submit your documents at any time in the future so we can share potential vacancies also after you have passed a strict compliance check we can share all the vacancies".
I don't know this agency from Adam. Did I do the right thing in this? Surely they should let me know about a suitable role first?

I can understand an agency wanting verification with a couple of documents, but I am quite surprised this particular agency is asking for whole load of personal stuff. I would worry that my whole identity could be stolen. They would have a lot of very personal items that I deem to be well over the necessary

clearly that's not the way this agency works - if you want to see their jobs, comply with what they want and register with them. If you don't want to see their jobs, don't.
If I was running that agency you would not be top of the list for getting job introductions. Bet nobody else queries their working practices.
That's not how it works they need to know you are legit before they can get you a job. They can get prosecuted if you, for example, turn out to be an illegal.
A British or Irish passport [even if expired] is all that is needed to confirm the right to work.

If they don't exist, other evidence can be used.

The agency told me about two ongoing temp jobs last week and now if I don't provide them with the long list, then they won't tell me what jobs they have.
If you're not happy with their conditions go to another agency.
Have you asked them to justify the need for each item?

why will you not provide the, what they need?
Its better for them to have done all document checking, DBS checks etc in advance so as soon as a job comes up for you then you are good to go immediately. If they do the checks afterwards it may take too long and you'll miss out. But if your not wanting to do it there way find another agency
Certainly they need refences now rather than faffing about when a job comes up... it can take weeks to get references back
From your previous posts you always seem to find something to complain about with agencies/co-workers/neighbours - try to lighten up a bit and not be so paranoid.
I get the impression that you're looking to work as a 'temp' in which case the agency will be your employer, and therefore need to know that all is above board. I honestly can't see a problem with providing the information they're asking for.
Imagine how embarrased the agency would be if they told a company they got someone who could start next week... and then they find you are unable to provide the docs and references quickly enough - maybe not even have some docs- so they have to go back to the company and say oops sorry

Interesting, I have done contract work all my working life and I never give out details like that until interest is shown.

If I did my whole day could be taken up will the myriad of agencies let alone privacy right out the window.

Perfectly my point, Floko. I'm not going to bother with them. They sound fishy to me.
And what if the next agency asks for the same thing? Perhaps it is a requirement that they have sight of such documents.
Just because I am paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me.
Are you sure they require ALL of that - or just what's listed below and something like utility bills confirming your address and bank details so they can pay your salary?
