The usual devastation...but my heart goes out to those poor souls who were trapped, and died in basement flats.

Terrifying.
is it usual for a hurricane to be still potent that far north? I remember once heading for Maine to avoid, I think, Felix, which was making its way up the east coast, but it never got much further than Washington as I recall.
Jno, back in the '50s Hurricane Hazel got as far north as Toronto.
Where is your family, Pasta....all safe?

Family is fine...thanks gness x
It's not unusual for at least one storm a season to make it up the east coast.
I remember as a child, Hurricane Donna. The Apple tree my parents had planted when they had moved in 11 years previously was ripped out of the ground. My mother wept as several attempts to lift it were unsuccessful.
This news must be particularly upsetting for you pasta, seeing your country devastated like this . I’m so sorry .
I’m pleased to hear that, Pasta but my heart too goes out to those who are losing and suffering so much. X

This is the second storm in 2 weeks...southern states are hit the worst. It's tragic really.
That far? I always imagined Long Island to be a suburb of New York.
