It seems like one big joke when shops/supermarkets say they are looking at ways to reduce plastic wrapping, yet supermarkets are giving over complete shelving units to Halloween plastic junk, it must add up to tons and tons of it flooding the market every year, and increasing.

The plastic pumpkin costing anything from £3 to as much as £8. What happened to mom or dad sitting with there kids and having fun cutting a real pumpkin face out, costing no more than a £1, and doing no harm when disposed of. When are we going to learn??

I think they call it 'progress'.

We're not.
They are reusable.

I've never bought a halloween decoration in my life.
The children in the villages here cut their own pumpkins and put them outside with candles in them. Perhaps it's something to do with living in the country.
Ah yes, the celebration of all things evil that reinforces the notion that it is nothing but harmless fun.
All things evil? Like what?
We bought very little in the way of decorations preferring to make our own with paper, paint and card etc.

Twigs for brooms and real pumpkins too.
Oh Theland! Really!!
I'll defo be out on Halloween!
What happens in America happens here eventually, and the transformation of Halloween into a ridiculous festival that goes on for weeks is just one example of that.
Fun for the kids though, Ludwig.
The whole concept of Hallowe'en is should be abolished. It it a vile American import
// Fun for the kids though, Ludwig. //

True. I had fun with it though when it lasted just the one night and consisted of us carving a swede - (that's right, pumpkins didn't exist in the olden days in England) - and my dad putting a bedsheet on and prancing around in the garden while we looked out of the window to watch for ghosts.

Personally I'm sad to see the demise of bonfire night, which has coincided with the rise of Halloween.
..don't get me wrong, I'm not all bah humbug about it. We always participate in handing out sweets etc for any trick or treaters. As you say, it's fun for the kids.
I think if anything pumpkin cutting was becoming more popular. Most shops now seem to sell tools for it. And you can’t move in supermarkets for real pumpkins. I quite like that: I did a cat last year :-)
"What happened to mom or dad sitting with there kids and having fun cutting a real pumpkin face out"
the sensible parents realised it's smelly, messy and vile
'I did a cat last year'
I'm sure there's a law against that somewhere...
Perfectly legal around here ...

@10.59 (they are reusable) That may be the idea ummmm, but do they, no, the kids want the new style next year, or even a bigger one. China is one of the biggest polluter's on the planet, and produce 90% of this junk, and yet we support it.
Bonfire night still happens. Here at least. It's ran by the fire brigade.
Like I said Teacake, I've never bought a halloween decoration and never will.
