//So basically, for saving towards a private pension when you retire ,you're screwed?// Such people get screwed all the time, bobbs. Those with no savings and who rely solely on the State Pension receive enormous amounts in the way of perks. I thought that said over 755 :-D
High time they just gave up on this tv licence lark. Would cost a bit scrutinizing every over 75 year old's income. Wonder if anything would be gained.
I'm often told 'it's no fun getting old' and I wonder what 'perks' will be left when I get to that age!
doesn't it mean that those over 75 receiving pension credit will qualify for a free tv licence? The bbc will required them to send of evidence of said benefit.

Thank you Danny
Maybe ael, I'm just curious and surely this will cost the corporation a lot of money?
i think they've already spent a fortune sending all of us letters explaining their plans

It didn't take long for those to come did it :/

bobbs//surely this will cost the corporation a lot of money?//
According to the article £250 million.
Question Author
So is that half the cost of keeping it in the first place? Not sure what the stats are ( sorry)
bobbs.
//The decision will cost the BBC around £250m a year – equivalent to a quarter of BBC1’s budget, but less than a third of the projected £800m figure if it had chosen to take on the full cost of the 4.5m licences.//

Oh well, it was nice while it lasted, thanks Danny
I`d be interested to know what piece of legislation gives the BBC he right to means test anyone. Then what do they do with that information when they are done with it - delete it or sell it on.
Question Author
Now that's a point C@Cryptics, and a concern too
I am already deaf as a post. IF I reach 75years I will probably be blind as a bat as well. :-)
Is the BBC gonna be working hand in hand with DWP?? How they gonna check your income???
Sharon//Under the new rules, any over-75 who already receives the means-tested Pension Credit benefit will be eligible for the free licence//
Thanks Danny.
