/// The shadow home secretary, Diane Abbott, is among signatories on an open letter calling on people to join counter-protests against a planned “Free Tommy” demonstration by the criminal’s supporters in London next month. ///

/// The letter was also signed by Lords, MEPs, union leaders, senior figures in Muslim and Jewish communities and campaigners from Show Racism the Red Card and other groups ///

/// It called on supporters to join protests against Donald Trump’s visit to Britain on 13 July, accusing the US president of “galvanising the racist right”, and again the following day to oppose the “Free Tommy” protest. ///

Well what do you expect from the real Nasty Party and it intolerant followers?
Who's Encouraging Violence On Our Streets Then?

Right wing thugs?
mainly male thugs
//Right wing thugs?//

Well, not "right-wing" using the lady with the hyphen's definition, but certainly "thugs".

I refer to Antifa, Unite against Fascism, Momentum activists and so forth.
Right wing supporters?

Like the chap who wanted to go into synogogues killing kids last week?
You’d think Dianne Abbott's support alone would be enough to tell people that this isn’t the best idea ….
Tommy Robinson pleaded guilty.
He pleaded guilty last year when he got a suspended sentence.
On what grounds should he be freed?
Gromit, that isn't the question. You'll find some thoughts on that here:

EDL supporters are entitled to hold a demonstration.

Counter demonstrators are allowed to voice their opposition.

No one is encouraging violence.
Naomi24,

I contributed to that thread.

If you plead guilty, then you admit the offence. How can he possibly be freed?
Gromit, We know what they're entitled to do... but deliberately staging a counter-demonstration is likely to lead to violence on what would otherwise have probably been an unremarkable occasion - wouldn't you say?
Gromit, best to keep this thread on track. It's all been said over there.

Had it have been a Muslim or Far-Left demonstration, I wonder if such prominent people would be encouraging the Far-Right to counter demonstrate?
But apart from that should they also be encouraging protests over a visit from the President of our closest ally?
What the heck's the point of a counter protest ?
Do they really think the original protest is going to influence anything ?

Diane Abbott, Lords, MEPs, union leaders, senior figures in Muslim and Jewish communities and campaigners from Show Racism the Red Card and other groups.
"What the heck's the point of a counter protest ? "

'There is only one thing in the world worse than being taked about and that is not being talked about'.
I think it'd be better to ignore the Free Tommy protest. The Free Tommy protest seems pointless as he pleaded guilty and only a few zealots believe he was locked up by a liberal luvvie elite to ban freedom of speech. Counter protests usually lead to trouble as it attracts some people who are just looking for a fight.
I don't agree with protesting against the Trump visit either. He is a democratically elected leader and I see no point in protesting in this way
