have you changed keyboard settings to US maybe ?
Click on Start and then Control Panel. Click on Regional and Language Options.
On the grey panel that opened in front of you, click on the drop down arrow and change that to English (United Kingdom).
Then apply.
You may have to reboot your laptop for any changes to apply.
That's what usually happens.

Change keyboard back to UK.
You may have to check the little "grey" box Add Languages and add English Display and English Language pack. Again a reboot afterwards if you don't do it all in one go.

I have tried that Togo. I am using Windows Ten.

I have gone to the Control Panel, although it won't allow me to get there in the way you suggest.

But there isn't a folder called Regional and Language Options.
Click "Start", then "Settings", then "Time & Language", then "Region and Language", then "English (United Kingdom), then "Options", then "Add a keyboard" then select "United Kingdom QWERTY".

That should do it.
What browser are you using?
Mikey, my Control Panel offers me a heading to change 'Clock, Language and Region'.
And in Chrome you can change the language by going to settings - advanced settings.

Thanks everybody....as soon as I rebooted the PC, all is now fine.

This has happened before, so I presume I must be altering the keyboard language without knowing it.
I think computers just do it now and then to annoy us. They leave it just the right amount of time so we've forgotten how to fix it :-)
Time and Language.
Region and Language.
Then under "add a language", You should see Related Settings..Time and Region. Click.
Then have a look at both Language and Region settings.
Sugar Mikey I said do the reboot. Haha as long as you are sorted.
happened to me a while back which is why I suspected it had gone all transatlantic on you !!

You did indeed Togo, for which I am grateful....but I'd like to know how I am doing it. My typing skills have never been great, but they seem to have got worse these days....creeping old age perhaps !
This has happened on my IPad after the latest update. I’m on then UK keyboard and language in my settings. It won’t change back. :/
can you reboot chrissa ?
Yes, I can give it a try, minty. I just thought the update did it.
don't have ipad..but have had a similar issue with kindle...reboot seems to clear most gremlins
There are myriad reasons why things like this happen. Upgrades and system changes have always been there. Some sort of weird default resumption to manufacturers settings happens when they run but only on some set ups. I have a suspicion also, that some keyboards and laptops have built in short cut functions and the like, and a random set of key strokes(to the user) set a set of actions into happening without you knowing. When my son was gaming on my desktop and setting up custom shortcuts to speed up his reaction times my pc use to wake up in Kazakhstan or Egyptian hieroglyphics some days without us having done anything conscious. Used to drive me demented and he thought it was great fun.
