Not really been following this story but from the news today I don't understand how 3 grown women were held hostage for 11 years by 1 man. Did he never sleep? Did he never go out? Surely these women could have overpowered him at some point. Really don't believe it...must have been Stockholm Syndrome?

tied up and chained. and terrified.
The women were beaten and tortured, raped and kept in a locked basement, when they were out I read they were chained.
OMG

Horrible horrible man......
Disgusting. They should lock him away, in chains.
With regular beatings...
And on another point they were not grown women when kidnapped, one was 13, one 16 and one 18.
If it is proven through forensic evidence that he murdered the unborn children he fathered with one of the women, he will face the death sentence. I personally would prefer him removed from the planet.
They're looking to get the death penalty and actually charging him, according to the news bulletins, with each count of rape and that could run into 1000's

I meant they were grown women in the latter years Friedgreentomatoes..... I can't believe the interview with one of the Mothers of the missing women "she was missing and we tried for a couple of days to find where she was....then we thought oh she will come home when she is ready..." WHAT??????? so you just left it for 11 years......jeeezus
It depends on the behaviour of the girl really if she has a history of running away perhaps that is the attitude you would take.
Think I read that they were kept chained in separate rooms, so no overpowering
I gather that was the lady who had a bad relationship with her mother because her mother had gained custody ( against her will) of her small daughter. I think there was a lot of bad blood in the family at the time and it might have been thought she was so upset she had simply gone somewhere to start again so to speak.
This trend of blaming the victims is unsavoury, to say the least.

maybe - but according to the FBI about 27% of hostage situations result in victim empathy - "stockholm syndrome", if you like.

If the victims develop stockholm syndrome that does not mean they are to blame for their situation! I can't believe that you would think it does mushroom.
Do you know anything about psychological dependence? I would guess not from that last post.
Running screaming from the house doesn't really fit with Stockholm Syndrome.
If they do develop Stockholm you can hardly blame them - reliant on one person for food water , raped beaten and chained told constantly that this is done for their own good.

Mushroom, perhaps reading a few case studies may help you understand better.
quite, daffy!

Outrageous to even suggest it is the victims fault in ANY way
Stockholm syndrome is a further problem for the victim to overcome not some sort of 'perk' and excuse for the abuse they have suffered. If someone feels empathy or is in love with their captor after a terrible ordeal like this , it does not mean it's a rational feeling, it means it's a psychological dependence brought on by the extreme trauma they have been through. It's further suffering. I really don't understand victims blamers at all.
