I hate being called "madam". Mostly this happens at restaurants by waiters, and it makes me cringe. I just wondered if I am alone in this, or if most us felt the same about it.

I generally don't frequent establishments that call me madam, but if I am called it, it makes me feel about 95
I'm the same Marijn.... makes me feel like a Brothel keeper
I probably wouldn't even notice.
no, it wouldn't bother me at all.

does "madam" equate to being ancient?
Can't say I've noticed to be honest. How do you address a female though? if not with madam.
I wouldn't let something so minor bother me.
not fussed about it myself
its better than.......haw misses ?

Thanks for answering everyone. Lol to Mazie, it doesn't make me feel like a brothel keeper, it makes me feel like someone is being creepy and crawly to me (I can't think of the right word at the moment)
I prefer Ma'am ...
Wrong gender, but I'm puzzled , what do you want to be called ?
Question Author
I don't need to be called anything. I like people asking things politely, I just prefer them not to stick "Madam" on the end.
"gorgeous" ;o)

PS to Modeller, do you like to be called "Sir"? Personally I think "Sir" isn't so creepy.
Better than `love` or `duck` or `hun`. I serve customers but never add anything onto the end of a question except a smile :>)
I don't like it either. Makes me feel old and past it,
Question Author
That's lovely, theotherhalf. I much rather have a smile that a "madam".
I think it depends where and who you are. Someone once laughed at me for asking directions of someone by saying 'Excuse me Sir, but do you know where...' they couldn't understand the Sir part of it, but I thought it was just good manners. I'd expect a waiter to call me 'Miss' tbh, I think it's rude to drop a salutation.
It would probably make me feel like an old lady but I can't say it would bother me.

What I do detest is blokes, particularly blokes I don't know calling me 'hun'. It's so.....girly. Men shouldn't use the word hun.
How is the waiter supposed to refer to you? It's unlikely they will know your name so how will you know he's addressing you and not 'sir'. It doesn't bother me, you can get called worse things.
