My friend has just came back from france and told me of the deep underground basements which spiral underneath the city of paris and houses hundreds of thousands of different cheeses of the highest quality due to the perfect conditions unseen anywhere else on earth and I just wondered Have any of you been to the "Le métro chambre de la mille mortelles fromages" in paris near the Champs-Élysées in paris and if so what was your experience like there?

I'm sorry crisgal but as much as my username points to it I'm actually not french and only know "bonjoir" and one or two other basic words. What exactly does "Votre jambe" means?

Pulling my leg FJ ;)

Not at all redhelen as he showed me the the photographs and video footage and got me a quarter wheel of cheese, why would someone lie about their holiday in anyway, do people actually do this?
This reminds me of the "Treacle mines of Guinge" that my future inlaws described to me on my first visit to the UK. Being unsure of what treacle was-it was *almost* plausible to me.......lol
I have to agree that your leg(in my opinion) is being well and truly pulled!
I have (to date) been to Paris about 20 times and have never heard of this cheese store!
Paris IS honeycombed underneath by very large sewers(that you can take tours of)but I don't think being damp would be any good for the storage of cheese!
BTW your French phrase translates as something like "The city chamber for thousands of dead cheeses"
Any self respecting cheese lover would baulk at the thought!

Je me fends la pêche.
Cant wait for the link lol
If you want a great 'underground experience in Paris, I can recommend l'Ossuaire Municipal.
i remember when someone first told me of the underground secret nightclub 'Shunt' in london, i doubted them. but it does exist. Maybe the cheese factory is real?
it's as real as the Clangers on the Moon.

OMG, it IS real.

Thank you crisgal I know I agree it does sound funny to those 'Not in the know' but I just came off the phone and was scolded by my friend for discussing this o an open forum! Apparently it is a secretive place only Advertised by word of mouth and has been run by the same family for hundreds of years! I told my friend this is cheese not plutonium and he hung up.
