If you are going to push up train and bus fares up 20% and make it uneconomic to use public transport, you may as well go the whole way and make the car more attractive by reducing its running costs.

Snarling up our town and city centres with traffic and pollution is a small price to pay if it means the Tories get elected again next time, sorry, I meant to say reduce Labour's huge deficit.
A nice Conservative Councillor on the television has just explained that this is a con. The Government has given the Council's the ability to charge less for parking, however, the Government is also starving the Councils of cash. Even if the Council's wanted to charge less, they could not afford to lose the revenue, so the cost of parking will NOT go down.
The point is that they're leaving it up to local councils to decide what they want to charge rather than dictating it from central government.
