The artist says "I want to shock", has he succeeded?

Should this 'art work' be removed from display?

Could it be just as upsetting as those 'Allah cartoons'?

Do Muslims believe in Angels?

Yet another Muslim artist in trouble, this time by her own believers.

Was Mark Sinckler 'wanting to shock' with this piece? Was that quote directly referring to this piece? Interviewed on the tv news last night he said the opposite and it was simply a sincere personal response of a fellow londoner to the events of 7/7.

I can't see why anyone would choose to be offended by this art work.

That would of course be dependant if one happened to be personally involved, with the bombings.

/// John Falding, whose partner Anat Rosenberg died in the Tavistock Square attack, said the artwork was 'unnecessary' and 'upsetting' to see.///

/// Number 30 bus driver George Psaradakis, 54, who survived the 7/7 attack in Tavistock Square, last night called for the picture, titled Age Of Shiva, to be removed from its exhibition.///

Is that the souls of the victims or the 70 odd virgins they were promised? I can only see females...!!

It is offensive.
Re Link 1 : To be fair, if he actually painted the whole scene, he's a very talented artist.

Re Link 2: I suppose she's not bad looking - wouldn't have minded seeing the one with her breast exposed - mmmhhhhhh.
The artist says "I want to shock", has he succeeded? he has not shocked me

Should this 'art work' be removed from display? definitely not

Could it be just as upsetting as those 'Allah cartoons'? never found them upsetting either

I don't find it offensive... But then I also don't personally think it's particularly good either. I certainly don't find it shocking.

"Do Muslims believe in Angels?"

Considering you post pretty much daily about Muslims in some form or another I would have thought you would take the time to actually learn a little about, what seems to be one of your favourite subjects.

Believing in angels is one of the six Articles of Faith in Islam.

Calling it the Age of Shiva makes it offensive.

If this had been painted by a survivor or as a rememberance piece i'm sure the raction to it would be very different.

The picture itself doent offend me and I was personally involved.
The only bit i found offensive is the fact the terrorists have been depicted as angels. If it wasn't for that bit, the artwork itself might have been rather moving.
Artistically it is a very powerful image. The painting seems to show the dead becoming angels and the sunshine. This maybe be comforting to some of those that lost people in 7/7 but the real problem here is number one that it's showing the blown up bus which will offend some, the other main problem I see here is that it was painted by a "Muslim" and a Muslim is the one that that took their loved ones. Or should that be so called Muslim as Mark Sinckler doesn't sound very Muslim also another thing that puts doubt into my mind is his painting has angels and faces in it which is forbidden to do in Islam. Apart from the newswpaper calling him Muslim, how do we know he is Muslim?
"Do Muslims believe in Angels? "

What a stupid and irrelevant question. Did Roger Dean believe in alien worlds?

Micky - I dont care that the artist is a muslim, i care that he painted a picture called 'the age of shiva' and 'wants to shock'. If he changed the name and promoted it as a rememberance piece I'd buy it!
For some slightly less "sensationalist" reporting on the story.

Even though he depicts the terrorists as angels lou lou?
Good point loulou, if the same picture was painted by soldier and as a rememberance piece would it have caused a similar uproar?
