I think Iron-willed-George bottled it when all the fuss kicked off about Child benefit.

Can't go upsetting too much of middle England - the defecit's important but not as important as getting re-elected I guess

To the more discerning voter they were just 'Labour Scare Tactics' but to many ardent Labour supporters they were fact.

But there was no need to worry, these did not even bother to turn out and vote.

look on it as a self-non-fulfilling prophecy: so many people protested in advance that Osborne backed down, as Brown eventually did over his 10p tax booboo. A good thing or a bad thing? Depends who you are. The money will have to come from someone else instead.
