5 dead confirmed (including derrick Bird - the gunman), at least 11 have been shot in 11 different locations.

There may be more dead confirmed as the police are able to move into areas without fear now that he's topped himself.

its been a mad day here, (I live in w/haven).
Its only a week since a dreadful RTA killing 3 school kids happened here, now this. The guy has shot himself so we will never know the reason why, would only like to pass on my thoughts to the familys of the victims.

The obvious outcome will be the reviewing of the gun laws. He not only had a shotgun but a revolver as well.

I once knew a work collegue who possessed a handgun and he made his own ammunition. He was the most unsettled person I have ever come across. Nothing but trouble looms for this guy.

There are killings almost every night in London, some that never seem to get reported.

Incidentally it was reported that the two guns he had in his possession, were a shotgun and a telescopic rifle.

Someone on the TV News last night said that this is such a rare occurrence here, it can't be legislated against. We are fortunate (he said) that if we were in other countries (which he named) this would be commonplace. Ghastly.
