The argument/constructive discussion over statistics reminds me of the CJD/ mad cow - John Selwyn Gummer beefburger scare. 30 cases of nvCJD in 60 million people = 1 in 2million chance - government advice "forget about it" "it'll never happen".

Chances of winning the lottery jackpot 1 in 40odd million and twice a week they're telling you "it could be you!"

Stats don't make me change my method of transport but it does inform my choice of airline - I 'd always fly Quantas over Aeroflot - and I use seatguru to choose my seat - if I am going to crash I'd like to be somewhere comfy!
It's 1 in 14 million but yes you have a point.
Hi again Geezer - sorry for late reply, was out all day yesterday making the most of the sunshine!

We've eaten & had drinks at the Smugglers Inn many times over the years. It's real fun walking back down the very dark lane to the caravan with torches, 'specially if we've had a few! It's one of our local favourite haunts in the evening.
I have warped logic, if I am due to fly and a plane crashes the day before I am much happier about flying, how often do you hear of major plane crashes on consecutive days
I have made a mental note not to fly with a Libyan airline, or to go up in a light aircraft towing a political banner
