Don't know how many of you will be aware of this, but there are allegations floating around that Philippa Stroud has claimed gays are posessed by demons, and it's also emerged she's been involved in conversion therapy

I should say I'm normally a bit sceptical toward Pink News, which also claims her lawyers have been trying to shut the media up, so make of it what you will.

Is this a disastrous thing to happen on the day before an election? Or is it so close it's pretty much containable? Does it affect anybody's perceptions of the tories? What do you guys make of it generally?

Personally, it does slightly increase my suspicion toward them on the issue (which for obvious reasons is important to me) but I was already quite mistrustful due to their voting record.

YOUR AVATAR IS FRICKIN AWESOME
bigot...............hmm where have I heard that word before?
Section 28 was one of the more lamentable laws of recent times; gays can hardly be blamed for wanting to be absolutely sure the Tories have ditched that kind of thinking. I suspect if I was gay I'd be very careful about voting Tory anyway, but it would depend on my local candidate. I would be very surprised if Cameron's opinions were anything like hers.

Hers are very extreme views for a mainstream British party, though they'd be common enough in some of the redder US states. Do you live in her constituency?
Why would voting for any of the 3 main parties affect homosexuals? This is not sarcasm but a genuine question.
///Philippa Stroud, the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Sutton and Cheam, has founded US-style evangelical churches in Bedford and in Birmingham. ///

Okay. Politics aside that's all I need to know about this person - borderline delusional or worse.

jno: No, I don't, but as you've said while I'm not intrinsically anti-tory I am a bit suspicious of their voting record more than anything else. I also agree that such views are highly unlikely to be found amongst the tory leadership, but it still just leaves a bad taste, if that makes sense.

"Why would voting for any of the 3 main parties affect homosexuals? This is not sarcasm but a genuine question"

How wouldn't it? I'm not sure I understand.
Please correct me if I've misunderstood your post, but are you saying that one loony's attitude towards homosexuality, suddenly becomes the tory party's as a whole?
Craft - *We* were under the cosh a little last time we had the 'Family-values' brigade in power; (which, naturally, didn't apply to their mistresses or second families).

I'm thinking of starting up a group where we can look at cosmic-ordering some therapy for delusional evangelical happy-clappers.......it may garner me a place in the House of Lords.
Question Author
No, of course not. I don't think this is the consensus within the tory party, but I think it brings up an issue which the tories have an discomforting record on in a way which is a bit unsavoury.
I'm not so worried by her anti-gay opinions ... plenty of people are like that.

But she seems to believe that a supernatural super-deity will come to her aid.

She refers to this mythical being as "God".

Is she really a suitable person to hold high office?

If she is elected, no doubt her Parliamentary assistant will be the Tooth Fairy !
kromovaracun - thanks for the avatar cheerleading! took me two weeks to sort out and its what i look like when i get a bit ragged or riled, so be very afraid!...yours is quite nice too. kinda reminds me of masters of the universe for some reason x
But I'd be amazed if her Chancellor of the Exchequer is Father Christmas!
Thanks jack for the explanation......so is Diddy Duncan the token gay in the party?
Jayne has hit the nail on the head. No, she is not suitable to hold office. She's nuts!! Scary stuff!!
However ...

Even a loony like Philippa Stroud brings Parliament one vote closer to abolishing Inheritance Tax.
The great thing about Ms Stroud is that when people in public office make comment like this, you get to see the number of people who reply "Good grief - you're a nutjob".

Same thing happened a few months ago when Iris Robinson claimed homosexuality was worse than paedophilia...whilst having it off with a 17 year old lad behind her husband's back.

Not LITERALLY behind his back mind.

That would be silly.
I love this site....
do you not remember Section 28, Craft? It wasn't loonyism (well, it was, actually), it was the party view and it was the law.

It's amazing that some people will believe what they read in the Guardian, yet criticise anyone who posts from the Daily Mail. It is little wonder a lynch mob hasn't been formed.

This is a statement made by Ms Phillppa Stroud.
