Was she within her rights, in refusing to take in this gay couple, even though to accept them would have been against her strong religious convictions?

It's private/property, be it Tesco, a b&b or your own home.

If you or I hated fat men and we refused them entry to our dinner party then there is nothing anyone can do about it.

I have certainly refused entry to more than one person over the years.
Private property has no relevance - hence pubs can't say, well you can smoke in my pub as it's private property.

The law, is the law.

As explained previously, you can discriminate on grounds of fatness - this is perfectly legal. You can not discriminate on grounds of sexual orientation. This is illegal.
Fair enough vic, if she said that then she's bang to rights
fgs ummmm dont take everything personally...I didn't mean your nan, I said a disgruntled OH.

Mind you.....there is a pest who keeps nicking my lappy - hmmm.....am searching Yell

Nobody would object if gay people set up their own establishments. I mean we have gay bars! gay parades! and a gay day!
and gay beaches!

Oh it's ok to discriminate in those circumstances lucy. tut tut it's only discrimination if the discrminatatee is on the approved list of the liberal elite!

Looks like this woman was niaive, should have just said they wern't allowed because she didn't like the look of them and then kept schtumm. She'd have been fine then.

I can see where she's comming from, I wouldn't want a couple of bandits practising up hill gardning in my gaff eaither.

Actually, the only one I know of who had an outright ban on same sex couples is Sandals.

They changed their policy back in 2004.

If it were me, I would welcome them and then the following day, I'd alter the tariff on the minibar in their room.

"Yes sir, your bill is correct. You ate two bags of Malteezers which are clearly labelled as being £2,450 each. This means your bill is indeed £5,120 for two nights stay."

But seriously - what would I do? I would welcome them in, and then show them up to their room, telling them that a gay interracial black couple had been staying in that room the previous week and enjoyed the hotel so much, they barely left the bed!

Voila - the scumbags would be gone faster than Katie Price's virginity.
So anyone who's lifestyle you disagree with SP are "scumbags" are they? Right Oh!
rov1200 - not sure if gay bars, parades etc openly ban straight people. They'd be mad to.
R1Geezer - I was referring to swastika tattoo-sporting White supremacists. I certainly think that someone like that is a scumbag. If you support the ideals of the Nazis, in my opinion, you are scum.

I don't think that's a minority opinion, do you?
