Look at my 2 posts below and tell, me have I explained the questioon badly or are there more than the average amount of numpty insomniacs stalking the section at night when they think the intelleigent people are not around. I'm having to do an overnight monitoring job so unusually for me I'm about at this time. I definately won't post any science questions at this time of night again.

one of them seems to have gone (threads, I mean)

well it seems the ED has removed one of them. The wrong one but hey ho, hopes aren't high!

the Q isn't entirely clear, perhaps because you're talking about guns when drawing cards might be a clearer way of putting it. For instance the post that said live bullets would sink to the bottom seemed sensible in real life but presumably not the sort of answer you were looking for.

read the question properly and work it out. I want to test my reasonning so I'm not going to gve it away just yet, it may be totally wrong, that's why I wanted to check it.

OK given the scenario above, if I could choose when to go which position gives me the greatest chance of survival? That's what I'm asking. Ok using cards JNO they are 6 cards in random order, Ace, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. Six people have to take a card in turn. Each person takes a card and if it's an ace they are dead and all the others survive, so if person 1 gets the ace they are dead and all the others survive etc etc. If I have the choice what order should I go in?

As with all questions put through such a limited medium as the written word alone , there are two elements which need to be catered for.

Elaboration and interpretation.

Although the answers you recieved were not what you wanted , they were an attempt by people to answer what they interpreted the question to be asking.
Along with this were answers trying to elaborate as to the working out . example " 3rd and 4th would be worst places due to bullet weight ".
These were not along the same lines of the answer you were seeking so were dismissed.
However further elaboration to the parameters of the question could have brought the type of answer your were after.
Patience would seem to be the key.

Bollux, it was disruption. It's a probablity question using aparatus to describe what scientists call a thought experiment. I did it with cards in the end for the pedants. I asked a simple to understand question. No one has had a proper go at the question yet, I hoped it would be of interest as the answer is unexpected to me, so I really wanted to check it with others that usually inhabit this area. Area109 no that's not my answer, it's more complex than that. For example you have to take into account the little bits of probability that someone will lose before you have a go and offset that with the reducing chance as goes are used up, geddit?
Everyone is entitled to their own view point . however dismissing questions with such comments a " Bollux, it was disruption. " . do Not help you in your quest for answers along the lines you require.

To elaborate that the bullet weight has no factor would take out this factor from the equation. As would elaborating that that firing pin stopping the rotaion of the chambers would also not be a factor and with that the rotation direction of the chambers would make no such impact either.

You asked a question however negated to factor for or against other factors which others included in their working out.

I personaly have no problem with you or anyone here , i am mearly trying to offer the " outsiders" point of view. With this i am sorry to say that the only disruption i saw was the insults and swearing given , which i personaly interpreted as frustration.

the bullet weight makes no difference because we don't know where it starts in the chamber anyway, even if it did chop my head off for hoping that people would see that it was a probability question. Forget the gun stuff just use the cards ok! Or are you going to say there is more ink on a 6 than an ace, yada yada yada.
my answer for your cards question would be the same as my own answer for your gun question.

Both wrong then well done, fancy a game of russian roullette?
-- answer removed --
wrong , well 1 in 6 games it maybe when put to practise . but i like the odds.

thanks for the offer but no thanks , a bullet wasnt my ideal way to die .

would be interested to see your answer to the same question . however i guess im going to have to wait on that until you feel you have had enough answers and feel your satisfied enough to enlighten us .
Question Author
If it was a simple "No brainer" I wouldn't have asked the question..
obviously.

not trying to add another factor , just checking here .. are we talking probabilty of a single game or infinate number of games ..?
Question Author
one game
