I find it amusing in a ironic way that most of these hoodie wearing, anti-social vermin do like the word “respect” (or is it 'respec'?) very much. Particularly when the 'respect' is directed towards them. It must make them feel warm and fuzzy inside I suppose.
Apparently, they believe that we – the everyday, normal people of this country – have to 'respect' them.
Now, I know what the word 'respect' means. And one thing I do know is that the word 'respect' is not synonymous with the word 'fear'. But when these types say something along the lines of, “Are you disrespecting me?”, what they are actually asking is, “Why are you not cowering down in fear before me?”.
As an ex-cop I can say this with absolute honesty – I have never in my working life met a teenage hoodie thug who has a backbone. They are, without question, utter cowards who congregate in groups for their own collective safety. They abhor being bullied but enjoy bullying others. However, they don't see their actions as 'bullying' – they see it as 'getting respect'. It's an Orwellian kind of doublethink.
That being said, I wouldn't recommend anyone tackle a group of them because in numbers they can be extremely dangerous. But if (God forbid) you're ever faced with a gang and there's no alternative but to challenge them - go for the one with the biggest gob...
