Is it justifiable for World War II Nazis still to be hunted down and brought to trial, as in this case?

Or, 60 odd years on, should the albeit few remaining be allowed to see out their lives in peace?

I don't care how old someone is.. they're still murderers and should be punished as such.
''Or, 60 odd years on''

Shame some of the 'victims' couldn't enjoy 60 years....
Yes.
No.
Frankly I am rather surprised at the question. It would be nice to think that all those that suffered and died at the hands of these sadists could have ended their days in peace - rather than in gas chambers.

However, I don't think that these people should be tried and sentenced as a form of vengeance, rather I think it should be as an example to the many sadistic genocidal maniacs who rule so many parts of our world. Let it be known that no matter how long after the crime, they will be brought to justice and have to answer for their crimes.
The're in their late 80's and 90,s now. What is the point?

Lawyers will make a packet, the tax payer will foot the bill and eventually they will die in jail.

An eye for an eye......but I say love thy neighbour.
Your quote is used in the wrong context, sqad.

These people deserve to be arrested, tried in the full glare of publicity, imprisoned and then buried with nothing to mark their grave.
love thy murdering neighbour? I think not!

This is the link to the story, paraffin's link seems to have gotten chopped at the beginning.

Yes these people should be prosecuted for their crimes,no matter how long afterwards.
The longer it goes on the better it is.

The more the message is that we do not give up hunting down war criminals.

If you participate in this there will be no hiding place however old you are.

It's just a shame that there has been less success in other conflicts like Yugoslavia.

I think paraffin you might want to take another look at the pictures of what they did and ask whether this really was a sensible question.

Of course exactly how culpable a young prison guard was and whether his prosecution is sensible is a different question - but I don't know the facts of this particular case.

But in general there must be no statute of limitations on genecide

I'm only posing questions, guys.

There are those who feel that these people should be pursued as long as they live.

There are also those who feel that "enough is enough".

So don't shoot the messenger!
jake/sara,,,would do me fine....expert witnesses at 1000 a day, lawyers, barristers...etc.........yepp, bring them on I would say.

Remember the circumstances in 1939-1945 quite different from today and who knows what pressures these camp Kommandants were under. But if you want your pound of flesh, I would not stop you and I bet neither would the accused.
perhaps in future you should offer your view from the outset...
OK having read it it sounds as if there is a strong case to answer that he was not exactly dragged along in fear of the regieme.

I'm also rather shocked that the Mail readers responses below are so sympathetic.

Perhaps I shouldn't be

Thanks, daffy, I'm still hopeless at these links!!
I don't think the cost of prosecuting these individuals should come into it.

What sort of message is it that 'if you run for long enough, far enough' you can commit any crime you can conceive ?
Or, 60 odd years on, should the albeit few remaining be allowed to see out their lives in peace?

You ask this and yet there are still many who continue to deny the old and very ill Ronnie Biggs his freedom.
How can you compare Ronnie Biggs to a concentration camp guard who pushed thousands of people into gas chambers?
Ronnie Biggs had his freedom for the best part of 30 years in the lap of luxury courtesy of the people he robbed. Why should any of us have sympathy for him now when he still denies that the train driver was in any way hurt.
Question Author
Please, guys, let's not deviate from the subject.
The Ronnie Biggs "saga" is for another thread for another day, thanks.
My Mothers Aint & Uncle were put to death in the gas chambers because they were German Jews!

Would I want to hunt their killers down? No!

I agree with squad617, 100%! - wouldn't waste time & money on them. They are all on their last legs now, so hopefully, if there is a next life, they will get what's due them there!
