Once again the government have kicked these brave men in the teeth by their half-hearted commitment to let just a few of them live here. They were happy enough for them to die fighting for us in the last war. Now they're being tossed aside and even illegal immigrants get better treatment. If you feel strongly that they've been treated dishonourably you can sign up to the new campaign here:

I agree with , another sad decision by an inept govt . I've signed the petition . Your link is slightly wrong though .

Yes, let them all in, all 36,000, we'll build a new town at the bottom of YOUR garden complete with special Ghurka supermarkets, places of worship, schools.

Why not let in everybody who fought in some way on the Allied side in WWII - so that'll be all French, Americans, Jamaicans (well we've got most of them already), Somalians, Indians (as Jamaicans), etc etc.

Why do they all want to come here? What's wrong with where they already live? Will they bring the living standards in this country down to their own - whoops, sorry, I mean raise our living standards to the high ones in their own country.
...spend a couple of years in the British Army...then demand handouts the rest of your life...nice one...
Sounds like advertising to me, and therefore needs reporting as such.
Let's not let the absence of a few facts get in the way of this, eh?
1) We are dealing here with men recruited in Nepal to work for the British Government, and based in Hong Kong. The link to the UK is working for the British Government - nothing else.
2) The employment contract made no offer about 'you can come and settle in the UK at the end of your employment'.
3) These men have recently won equal pension rights (and rightly so). This appears to be the next step in the campaign.
4) Just because the 'rules' were changed after the handback of Hong Kong to the Chinese, and subsequent Gurkhas were allowed the right to settle here (because their employment contract was based here) doesn't change anything.
I think this subject was adequately covered in this earlier post.

But since then it is good to see that some others have sensibly reasoned out what could possibly become an immigration nightmare, and have joined what was previously my voice in the wilderness.

Gkurka's (sic) what again treated badly by Government?
Just because people are recruited into the Forces shouldn't give them automatic rights to the country. It is, after all a job they were paid to do.

Much as I sympathise with the Ghurkas I dont think they could comfortably practice their culture in England - if its for Medical needs then a charity to raise funds for same or even a pension would be more beneficial.
