Could tomorrow prove to be another millennium fiasco?

But on the other hand, judging by how Answerbank as been behaving this last week or so, I think it may have already infected AB.

Being in the AV industry, the view from the ground looks like it's not going to be a big deal.

But we've been wrong before - the industry didn't spot that the CIH virus was going to turn thousands of people's computers into expensive paperweights 8 years ago.

Better to be forewarned and forearmed.

BTW glad you think the millenium bug was a fiasco - people like me spent thousands of hours and released dozens of fixes to make sure that things didn't break.

Strange that you don't think the terrorist threat is a fiasco because the security services are constantly working behind the scenes!

Ah well - I at least I got overtime
That's NOT an april fool. This is a known threat and has been since October 2008. On April 1st it uses a more advanced algorithm to spread itself and could become more widespread.

Make sure your virus protection is up to date.
And like Jake, I also worked long and hard to ensure that the public wouldn't feel the problems caused by the year 2000.

It's like people travelling on a train coming up to a bridge that's collapsed. The engineers work like mad to correct it and the train sails over smoothly, leaving the passengers thinking "well, what was all the fuss about!"
Good advice about keeping AV up to date (yes I wound say that)

Although people don't always keep up to date with updates to their computer which plug the holes that things like this (It's called conficker) use.

http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com is your friend!

They release major updates on the second tuesday of every month. Your little shield icon in your task bar should do this automatically.

And if you're a smug Mac user - We have databases full of viruses that infect macs! they just don't make the news so much
The overtime I earned patching and testing our systems pre Jan 1st 2000 paid for my three week holiday in Australia.

God bless computers.

So... it... it.... no... it...

IT WAS YOU!
