What are the arguments for and against the privatisition of the Royal Mail? what does everyone think of it on here? Will it lead to mega job cuts?

I don't believe any company would want to take over the entire operation, they will merely harvest the profitable sections and leave the rump to be maintained by the tax payer. If there were some form of privatisation, I think we would see the end of the universal postal rate and the introduction of city friendly systems that penalise rural communities and slash jobs. Personally, I don't want a range of choices when I post birthday and Christmas cards. I prefer the sytem we have, but wish it was better managed.
It should not happen. Teh postal service is a public requirement and should be funded by the public purse, if requried.

Having said that it should be efficient and not open to union abuse.

The current post office is full of workshy drunks. By no menas everyone but too large a percentage to ignore.

I know this I have inside information.
It will make TNT a lot richer. But wasn't it them who lost those government data disks? The biggest question believe it or not is who will take over the final pension schemes of Post Office workers?
