Apparently statistics just released state that an average of 5 people a week are killed in knife crime.
What's the solution?
I say prison time, and loads of it.

Politicians / experts or others can pontificate about crime , and the solutions thereof

However If anyone knew the answer to knife crime and crime in general ; then there wouldn't be any crime - and we would all be uttering phrases like ' we are not worthy ' as we pay homage to that person .

Unfortunately prison , throughout the ages has not erradicate crime - has it ?

Society will never be rid of crime - in that sense there is no solution - all we can do is try and contain it .

Stop and search, and if anyone is found carrying a knife then it should be an automatic custody sentence.

Anyone found gulty of a knife or gun killing should face a minimum of 30 years in prison.

Perhaps not but what it does do is to remove the perpetrators from the rest of society.

The problem these days is the fact that it is far too easy in prison for them and they are not removed from society for long enough.

Simple answer to that is to either build more, or replace existing recreational areas i.e. gyms, pool table areas etc with more cells.

Absolutely - we really need to make the thought of being caught with a knife a big enough deterrent to make them think twice before carrying one.

I believe it should be a fixed penalty offence which carries a 5 year custodial.

There should also be a lot of stop and search - it doesn't take a genius to work out who to target.

Put up metal detectors in all schools.

The habit of carrying a knife starts early in life. Don't just confiscate the knife put the offender on the national criminal data base.

Are there old ships that can be used to imprison murderers,malicious users of knives,paedophiles,rapists etc - then taken them out to the middle of the Atlantic and scuttle the ships.

Curb immigration because most stabbings are a direct result of the horrible "nuff ree-spect" and dissing culture that immigrants have brought to the UK.

Prisons ARE full to bursting, but if judges stopped filling them with people whose only crime has been purely monetary with no use or threat of any violence, then there'd be more space.

Fraudsters and the like should be hit where it will hurt them most - in the pocket. Make them pay back every penny, with a hefty fine on top, impounding certain items of property if necessary. If they're still short of the amount required, make them pay their remaining debt to society through closely supervised community or charity work.

These people are criminals, and need to be dealt with, but they rarely pose any physical threat to others. Keep them out of jail and free up the cells for those who do.

To say fraudsters don't belong in jail I feel is erroneous, if they've robbed your money you need a deterrant, if they've spent it you won't get it back and if they've got to repay it at what level?
A �1.00 a week?
You'll always have crime because every criminal does'nt think they'll get caught, but prison gets them out of everyone elses way for a bit, prison might'nt work for the offender but probation etc is failing also, but with the offender locked up their friends may think twice about copying them.
I disagree with immigrants being to blame as well, these kids are British born and bred, if you're gonna blame the immigrants for this then you're scratching where it does'nt itch.

everton,thats what they do in america,400 years for a murder etc... but the prison systems are full,the prisons themselves have turned into slaughterhouses and your just as likely or more to get killed then on the street due to the racism and gangs that roam within,and on top of that because of the ludicrously long sentences your likely to get when caught,every criminal now hijacks cars,people and are ready to kill to stop themselves going back to jail,so whats the answer...........

American prisons are so violent is because they are badly run, good prisons don't come cheap, I'm not at heart a hang em flog em sort of fella. I believe in rehabilitation, so long as it's done inside.
I'm of the opinion that once you start carrying guns and knives around with you, then it's already too late for you, you become part of the problem not the solution.
BTW I don't mean you personally BC.
