Its our only big shop in town so yes. Often on a sunday if me and my boyfriend are bored we will walk up and get a dvd. The only other decent shop in our town is superdrug
I had my first and only saturday job in my local Woolworths!!

The branches around here now are half empty of goods and people!!!
Our woolies is always quite busy, sad for it to go, i remember as child getting hot salted peanuts in a poke, also bright yellow sherbet think it was 2 ounces back then!!!
Ours is always busy, too. I don't know where we'll get our Pick 'n' Mix from now, though! My mum goes in every Christmas and fills a tin with strawberry creams. Yum.
I remember choosing my doll one christmas from wollies , i must of been about 7, she was sat on the top shelf so high up ... she had silver hair ..lol
a freind of mine worked at the one local to me and now her jobs gone : (
i don't use it often but i will miss the fizzy apple laces. i feel sorry for the staff, we had a 'Big W' here and the first the staff knew about it closing down, was when we printed it! the poor sods came into work to be greated with the local paper telling them they had lost their jobs!
Woolies was the place to go on a Saturday for your stockings and tights and a big scrabble of girls would be pushing and shoving before your favourite disappeared.

And weren't they the only place to get Xmas deccies? My sister and I spent many a happy hour making paper chains from strips of lick and stick paper. Very satisfying and only a tanner a pack.....
oh no the pic a mix my nephew will be so disapointed his nanna takes him up there

Ahh yes,the pick and mix......

My son, when little, discovered this delight.

'This shop is great - they have free sweets round there - you just help yourself..'

Hopefully we put a stop there and then from nicking from Woolies.

i rmember my local woolies used to sell loose biscuits and you could pick and mix them, they also sold cooked meat over the counter
yep gina remember the biscuits also,in big boxes, did you get sherbet and did your finger go bright yellow after finishing it??
Question Author
sherbet was the white podery stuff, the stuff that "dyed" your fingers was kayly, not sure how to spell it and it was like coloured sugar crystals
I bought my first LP in Woolies in the early eighties. Our local Woolies has been there for as long as I can remember, it will be a real shame to see it go.
Hello, monty! :)

Woolies was my first outing as a newborn, too, so I've been told. :)
Question Author
i usually go in there whenever i go to town, shame if it goes
my older sister confessed to stealing a music tape (it was easier than pinch than an LP!) from our local Woolies. she ran all the way home almost crying in fear, went up to our bedroom... and found it was an empty case!

bless.

she never stole anything again.. or so she says ;o)
Ours went a couple of weeks ago. Noone knew a thing until staff started telling people the day before that it was closing and everything (except electricals, mobiles etc..) was 50% off, some things were even 70% off!! I have never seen queues like it!!! and the greed of some people was quite unbelievable!
Everyone is saying how it isn't the same without Woolies and their right! Place is going to be a Tesco's direct now.
a couple of years ago I went to a giant woolworths and was really disappointed, massive warehouse with hardly anything inside, its sad that its going but its not the same as it used to be, its a bit of a mixture between a wilkinsons and a pound shop these days
do you reckon the woolie and worth teddys might be worth something?
