Do you think there are thousands of gun toting rednecks out there ready to assasinate Obama? He seems to be standing behind bullet proof screens making speeches etc. Is there more danger than any other president elect?

I hope not! The backlash would put the Iraq war into insignificance. He must be either brave or stupid to have volunteered to take the job. They have already apprehended 2 men about to carry it out. Maybe there are more out there waiting to be flushed out.
Most definitely. They better keep Sarah Palin/Dick Cheney out of shot's length too.
I have no doubt that he is in more danger than previous Presidents elect .

First ' black' president to be assasinated ?
What a coup for these white supremist groups
and/or others

I thought he just had bad eyesight and they were giant autocues
Yes, I think he is in more danger. I hope I am wrong.
He is a very brave man. USA presidents are always in danger but with the added danger from racists he needs to be well protected. The backlash if he is assasinated will be dreadful.
Not thousands, probably not much more than a handful; but it only takes one. All presidents get constant secret service protection, well into retirement too. Four US presidents have been assassinated (all white, obviously). Reagan was wounded. In fact everyone since Nixon has faced attempted assassination.

The Obama victory tells Americans that anyone can become President, the Oswald legacy tells us that anyone can kill one.
I wouldn't say thousands, exactly, but there's a significant minority of gun-toting, sexist, racist, bigoted 'real' Americans out there who just happen to be Republicans.

Obama is indeed a very brave man, and I really do hope the civil rights struggle ends with him, but that seems a very simple and idealistic thing.
Civil rights struggle? I have the right to pay taxes, I have the right to not be able to afford to buy a house, I reserve the right to be charged more taxes to bail out the banks for lending money that they didn't have to people who had no chance of repaying them, I reserve the right damn it to pay 74p for a litre of milk which last year cost 40p, and finally and most importantly of all I reserve the right to be ignored by a British Government that couldnt give a weasels gonads about the people that work hard in this country!
Signed: Not John Prescott
I think he's in more danger than anyone before him.
All those simple God-fearin folks, will already have their shotguns loaded.
probably more likely to be topped by those simple allah fearin' folk.
We were talking about this earlier & certainly hope it doesn't happen to him, or any members of his family.

Can you imagine the backlash - it doesn't bear thinking about.....
Yes, but you've always had those rights, shomer, and you enjoy the right to complain about them too. You also have the right to work, travel on public transport and actually buy that litre of milk, no matter how much it costs. You have the right to stand for council or parliament if you feel so strongly about something that you want to put it right.

If you were a black or mixed race American, you'll only have had those rights for the past few years. There would be people who'd consider you have no right to them even now and who would treat you accordingly. There would certainly be those who think you have neither the right nor the heritage to become leader of your country.
