I seem to recall somebody saying theyhad managed to retrieve some 'lost' images from their digital camera but am unable to find it in AB. Is it possible?

Try "Restoration": www.snapfiles.com/get/restoration.html (Couldn't check link due to work filters, but it should work). It's free: install it on your computer, plug in the camera (or it's card) and get it to scan.
