After recent television investigations into racist coppers and Muslim fundamentist Immans, has the BBC missed the mark with it's latest undercover operation:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7623567.stm

Could is be argued that if you're going to send men off to potentially kill or be killed, you need those of the very strongest character...that it may be necessary to 'weed out' those who would crack under active duty?

Or have they got it right? Should we be vigilant against bullying in all walks of life?

I appreciate that the programme has not yet been broadcast, so the question is about 'army bullying' in general.

there is a very fine line between ' bullying' and ''weeding out the men from the boys'' abuse in the armed forces is unacceptable..............
I will reserve judgement until seeing the show. But its at deepcut , where officers have been in trouble for bullying before .
So it doesnt look good.
Actually it's in Catterick not Deepcut. Deepcut was closed a while ago.
To a very large degree I agree that you have to weed out the ones that are going to balk at the first sign of stress. How can you trust them with a gun. They might go t!ts up and shoot their comanding officer. when they should be shooting the 'others'.

Cannon fodder has to follow blindly and any idiot with his own ideas is a danger to everyone around him.

The Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut remains the Regimental HQ of the Royal Logistic Corps and is not due to close until 2013.

Hmmm...interesting.

It would be interesting to hear from someone who has first hand experience of army training. It's world I know nothing about (apart from films etc).
In army they test your character and resilience any way possible. And the enable you to withstand all sorts of treatment and that is the part of the training.
Its called character building, p1ssing on your boots softens the leatrher, that Cpl was doing the hapless recruit a favour.

My son is in the Parachute Regiment and yes he was 'beasted' on a regular basis while training but he says that's what saved his life during two tours of Iraq. His argument is that weak men have to be weeded out, they are the ones 'covering your back' and if they are not disciplined enough they are a liability.
I have recently heard that the BBC reporter had to sign on in the Army, so as to infiltrate the Army depot undercover.

He has since gone AWOL, I wouldn't like to be in his shoes, when they catch up with him.
