Have you been on the comparison sites - confused.com and moneysupermarket?

The other alternative is for your mum to insure it and have you as a named driver. Some insurance companies offer NCB for named drivers (think Direct Line is one) but I don't think she would be able to use her NCB on two policies.
Do not get your mother to insure it in her name with you as a named driver- this is fraud and the insurance companies are well aware ot it - they call it fronting.

You also need to be building up your own no claims bonus.

Add advised, use the comaparison sites. Consider pay as you go insurance, especially if you don't intend driving too many miles - they put a 'tracker' in your vehicle and you pay for the time you spend driving.
It would depend entirely on the car she bought you.

If it were a 1.1 fiesta from the late 80's then it would cost more to insure than say a micra from the late 90's.
I learned to drive when I was 23, and it was still 850 third party on an ancient Ford Fiesta. You just have to bite the bullet, drive safely and carefully in a small engine car, and wait for the premium to drop when you're 25. That's what I did - it does feel hard at the time though ! There are some insurance companies that specialise in insuring young drivers, try checking out Google.
