No, the best option would be to fire the existing police and replace them with people who could actually do the job - then it might be worth paying them...

This clamouring for resignations is one of the worst British traits. Something goes wrong and we don't care how it's resolved as long as heads roll.

Peter Fincham's resignation from the BBC was the absolute nadir, but this would push it close.
