Finding money for Bankruptcy proceedings

My sister & her husband have been helped with their debts by the CAB. They have now been advised to go for bankrupcy. I was concerned when My sister told me she has to find �1000 before proceedings can start . Does anyone have any idea why

I have NO Idea and would be very cautious about this. To apply for bankruptcy is as easy as going to the local court and applying for it, you sit before a judge and then, if he finds your case plausible, he will adjudge you bankrupt (by appointment!).
There is no need to pay out anything. That's a fact :o)

If they live in Scotland, apply for a trust deed. It's similar but not as severe as bankruptcy.
