do i have the same rights with finance company as banks

my daughter bought a car on finance 5 yrs ago �1500 still oe,i was going to pay it all of ,but they have add ed an extra �223 in charges.i have been paying �271 a month for her for the past year and have only been late 2-3 times.all the letter says is unpaid charge fees.on the times i was late was just one day and at the times they sent a letter saying they wouldnt charge this time,but still took ,but how is it that much when late payment fee is �30.do i have the same rights as bank charges.
