No.
You probably won;t like this answer, but I see nothing wrong with using dead dogs as bait, not live ones, but its no more revolting than using live worms or maggots, ever seen them squirming on the end of a hook, and trying to escape?.
Yes it does tara

Lonnie, from reading the article I get the impression that the dead dogs they used were dogs specifically killed for that very purpose, which in my eyes is wrong.

This is the 2nd news article today regarding animal cruelty that I've responded on. We really do live in a sick, twisted and cruel world.
How about using boxing moon bears instead?
I have no problem with humanely killed dogs being used as bait.

Shark hunters already use seafood as bait in the US and Australia...however I clicked on a link within that story and saw a photo of a dog with a huge hook through it's snout.

That, for me, is just horrible...I don't like dogs, never have, but being brought up in a society where I view them as pets...it just seems really, really, really cruel.

Lonnie - I have to disagree with your comparison between dogs and worms.

A whole different kettle of fish...!
As a vegetarian I do not like the idea eating flesh start and finish.

I share my house with a dog and she is as important as any of the rest of un non hairy family

However if you are going to fish, what is the difference between using any animal as bait once they are dead. Why as far as I am concerned you could use dead humans. Personally I wouldn't breed any animal to use as bait because I do not agree with the catching and then eating of fish. But, if eating flesh floats your boat why does it bother you if they are cute little maggots or cute little dogs?
And they do have a problem with strays so it's a way of dealing with that too.
I love feasting on flesh!

However, I wouldn't want to do so while the flesh in question is still live and kicking.

If this was a case of just using dead dogs that they find then I wouldn't find that particularly bad. I'm completely against using them as live bait, this may just be sentimantality but I can not stand the sight of anything in pain and/or fear. As for euthanasing the dog first, I don';t know. If they are prblematic strays with a poor quality of life, maybe being humanely put down isn't a bad thing (though I would be in tears if at the death!). Once dead they may aswell be used for shark bait as anything else.
The vet in the picture is apparently removing a hook from a dog that escaped, assume he wasn't dead while he was running away. Using dead animals is one thing, but live dogs is really not the same as maggots
It also mentions that one dog that escaped was infact someone's pet.
Seeing a live dog with a hook through its snout has for once left Wardy speechless.

I hope the fisherman drown whilst they cry for their mummy.
Said ck1: "Using dead animals is one thing, but live dogs is really not the same as maggots "

Indeed not, maggots are pretty harmless.
Well until they grow into flies jenstar and spread diseases by crapping in your food.
Not sure why this item from October 2005 is in the news section, but you might find this helpful

It's inhuman that dogs are being used as bait instead of pakistanis
Yes I know I'm banned from the site for that remark but given the opinions of other members it's not a lot to lose
Question,

Why is cruelty to dogs, different to cruelty to maggotts and worms?.
bloody hell they even left its collar on ??? is that in case it gets off the hook and they can ring its owners up ??
