just out of curiosity....

they say the ice caps are melting and the water levels are gonna rise but why cant they........

make a massive resevoir in the middle of the nations that are starving from infertile land and deserts and pump water into them??

surley this would help with a lot of problems?

how?
I think if the polar caps melted thats lots of fresh water into the oceans and thats the big problem. It would stop warm currents and cause an ice age. Im not sure if thats right but just finding somewhere for the water to go isnt the only problem.

how..................... if they can make a pipe in alaska for gas ( i hpe thats right) i am sure they can transfer water to places?
and alongside these huge reservoirs we could build a huge bakery so we can feed all the people as well............job done.

oh dear?................ dont you like my idea stokeace?
lol yes i do rugelyboy i wish it were that simple tho just having a little joke
Question Author
ok................ but why cant it be that simple?............. what would the restrictions be?
probably all the politics that would be involved you know what politicians are like.......they would always put stumbling blocks in the way of good ideas.
Wont the water be salt water, therefore useless in fertilizing land?
Question Author
but surley this could be filtered?? in this day and age its all possible??

yes polititions are idiots!
It would be easier just to drain a great lake in North America, or even Loch Ness in Scotchland and ship it over.

I don't see how you could flood water to an inland destination without it flooding other countries on its way.

If the north caps melted it wouldn't make a great difference to our water levels as the ice is sat on water. The southern ones are sat on Antarctica though so that would cause a lot of flooding. You also have the ice sheets that sit on top of mountains and if global warming continues at the rate it is the one sat on top of Kilimanjaro could just disappear. So its not just the ice at the poles that are problematic.
I heard last week that plans are afoot to refill the Dead Sea which is disappearing fast with water channeled from the oceans by means of new canals. Although not drinking water it may help with rising sea levels caused by global warming.
Or they could just desalinate the sea water from the nearest coast line of the desert land and use that for their reservoir to pump water into their land....

Nice idea but, no profit to be made = no one cares.
how do you desalinate seawater?
Desalination plants I guess, I've never seen, only heard of them ...
desalination plants!!!
brilliant - just brilliant... not only is this very very expensive to achieve even on a small scale BUT to do it you have to boil the flipping water and collect the steam which then cools to be unsalted water soooooo to boil the stuff you are going to need loads of power to run your massive plant - at the moment this means burning fossil fuels - which in turn releases green house gases which in turn leads to climate change which in turn leads to melting of the polar ice caps ... all in all its not really the best plan in the world is it

i bet you walk around life saying " didnt you know that" to people?
