I have two male russian dwarf hamsters and recently they have been fighting. Spoke to pets at home where i got them from they said its normal as they are finding out whose boss.
Month later they are still fighting but it didnt seem anything serious until tonight. They were really fighting and the one would not let go of the other. I noticed he was bleeding so tried to stop it which resulted in me getting bitten. However I finally managaed to seperate them. I have one in the cage and one in a homemade cage until tomorrow.
Is there any way we can put them bk together??? Also the one in the homemade cage hasn't got any water as i havent got anyway of putting it in. Ive filed a little bottle lid of water but that will get knocked over before the morning, will he be ok?? He has bedding and a house and food.
Also I heard that hamsters die when they are seperated is this true??? I think that one will die if I keep them together. Any advice would be great.
Thanks

I defintely wouldn't put them back together or as you say, one of them will die. I think its very difficult to get male of any species to live together happily. Pets at home talk a load of rubbish when selling these dwarf hamsters - they tell you to get two so they will be company for each other and that usually ends up with one hurting or killing the other one. I have had the same with chinese hamsters from there - I had to separate them because they started fighting badly. My sister had two chinese that one of them killed and half ate the other one. Please don't put them back together now - they won't get on at all. I have a Roborskvi hamster and he's quite happy living in his little cage on his own. Have you seen the habitrail cages - they are relatively inexpensive and great for dwarf hamsters.

Thanks internet fan, I agree pets at home talk crap when selling the hamsters as I really don't believe that they were from the same family like they are supposed to be they look totally different and infact it would not suprise me if they werent even of the same breed- russian. Anyway I have kept them seperate and brought a new cage, I agree I really think that one would of ended up dead, they seem happy enough alone although the one is still injured from the fight but he is slowly getting better.
Thank you
