Ok, so what have Jade, Jackiey, Jo & Dani said that is racist?

In my opinion, they've not said anything racist whatsoever. Ignorant, stupid, misguided...maybe, but never racist. Yet Jermaine has described Jackiey as 'white trash' and no-one has batted an eyelid. All this classic Asian hysteria and over-reaction...where's the justification?

Now a question to you...do you think that telling someone to 'f*** off back home' can be construed as racist?

Question Author
Yes, I think it can be CONSTRUED as racist. But it's worth pointing out that that particular remark was made in last night's edition of CBB which was broadcast hours after I posted this question.
I just hope this destroys Big Brother. I hate it. It has ruined British television. However, is this rascism, or is it a case of people over-reacting? I dont know myself, I dont watch it. If it is, then the girls doing it will get more than they bargained for. However, if it is just bullying, then our turning this into an international rascist incident will ruin their lives and maybe even put them in danger. They may not be nice but they dont deserve that. And for what? A crappy TV show. We have a habit in this country of turning every little incident between Black and White people into a possible rascist incident. All i'm saying is, let's call this one right, before it gets out of hand and ruins peoples lives.

I have only watched 10 minutes of it in all and managed to catch a racist comment.
Dani has definitely said "she cant even speak English. She should F*** off back to where she came from".

People always pick on Asians, I have a friend who is from Sri Lanka and she gets called a ****, by some drunk twot who has never laid eyes on her before. Do they mean it in a friendly way? I dont think so. I think in these shows the dynamic of the group always needs someone to pick on and someone from an entirely different culture is an easy target. I have personally never met a rude Indian (thats not to say they dont exist) and have always though they had a very polite and friendly nature.
jacky continually referred to shilpa as "the indian" because she couldn't be bothered to learn her name.

she asked her if she lived in a shack

i don't think they set out to single her out simply because she is asian, i just think its because she is different
I am sure this was said many many times by the Native Americans, Native New Zealandanders, Native Australians, Natives of the Indian Sub-Continent and the Africans. Could that be construed as racist?

And how many times have you said it to the Mother-in-Law or even the Dog when he has followed you to the pub? Not racist at all, just being flippant, don't take me too seriously.

Wow the answers come in fast and furious, my flipant contribution should have answered your question to craigiep, but it came further down the queue somewhat out of context.
>>>>warily creeps in - glad to see it's all quiet on the Western front - let's hope it all soon dies a death - creeps back out again>>>>>

Okay...so "She can't even speak English, why doesn't she f*** off back home" the lovingly phrased full sentence...that can be 'construed' as racist...what do you think actually qualifies as 'completely racist'?

I'm with you in one respect...when this all kicked off, I was of the opinion that the comments made were merely ignorant and cattty...but it appears over the past 24 hours, the three main agressors have 'raised the bar' so to speak.

I still think that the reaction of 95% of people (anti Jade & co) is heart-warming.

It proves without a shadow of a doubt that people in this country are overwhelminglynon-racist...actually, not 'non'-racist...they're positively 'anti'-racist (subtle but important difference).

Can't wait for Jade's eviction tomorrow...just imagine her face when Davina tells her what's happened.

It's like Christmas all over again.
By the way - funniest quote of the day came from CH4. When it was put to them that Jack Tweedy (Jade's partner) had called Shilpa a 'pak1', CH4 said, 'No...he called her a c**t'.

Well, that's okay then isn't it? What a nice fella he must be.

Absolutely hilarious.
Question Author
sp1814, as you well know that comment is also from last night's edition which was broadcast hours after I posted this question. Get your facts right or get off my back
craigiep

I'm SO not on your back...what you don't know is that I've not been watching it. Honest.

I've just checked my first post. I wrote:

There's only a couple of things I've read that are obviously racist, but the rest of their comments just seem like common-or-garden bullying.

However, like the rest of the country, I think I've seen the light.

Surely you have too?

C'mon...it take a real man to admit he's wrong. I was once exactly where you were right now...I once told all my mates that Titanic was a decent movie.

Egg all over my face...
Errmmm...when I wrote, "I'm SO not on your back...what you don't know is that I've not been watching it", of course, I meant Celebrity Big Brother...not your back
Question Author
So sp1814 you've seen the light but not the programme. Had you been watching it you'd understand why I've never been wrong about this. Up until last night's edition none of the comments made by Jade and co could be construed as racist. But, as I keep telling you and you keep failing to absorb, I posted this question on the AB hours before last night's edition. Had I done so after last night's edition, I'd have been wrong. I didn't, so I'm not.
Question Author
sp1814 you're beginning to challenge Jade Goody for Empty-head Of The Year. For starters, why spout off about a show you aren't even watching?
craigiep

Lordy!

When the story broke, there were definitely a couple of comments that were a little bit close to the mark. As the week went on, the comments got more and more...okay, let's not use the word 'racist', let's just use the word 'racially ignorant'.

I don't need to watch the show to know what's going on. Its the biggest news story of the year. I read about it in the papers.

Do you need to watch the reports of the war in Iraq to know what's going on? No - you can read it in the papers!

So, going back to your original post...no - at the time, I did what I normally do with someone who uses terms which could be construed as racist and gave them the benefit of the doubt.

However, four days in, I couldn't keep doing that.

craigiep - the goalposts have changed. If I were in your shoes, my attitude would be, "Blimey - these people have gotten worse since my first post...but I still think the reaction to it has been a bit over the top".

What I think you're upset about is that your post now looks hopelessly out of date.

Jermaine Jackson called Jackiey 'white trash' (and you know what I think about that), but since then, there's just been a weird tirade of abuse at Shilpa.

So the goalposts have moved. Your original post has been superceded by events.

And with that in mind, would you say that the three perpetrators are racist, or would you say (as I believe) that they're not actually racist, just racially ignorant.

Do you believe that racism actually exists, or do you think that in most cases, people overreact to innocent comments.

Question Author
sp1814, I have already clearly implied that since the start of Wednesday night's edition of CBB the racism accusations have become more justifiable, courtesy of comments you yourself quoted yesterday and the 'Shilpa Poppadom' one last night. But I am not upset about that - why should I be? For the THIRD time, sp1814, I posted this question BEFORE Wednesday night's edition, so why would I be upset at changes subsequent to my posting? I am frustrated that you just don't get that. Are you sure your surname is not Goody?
That made me absolutely roar out loud with laughter - no no no, he didn't call [the utterly utterly utterly utterly gorgeous] Shilpa a ****, he called her a c***.

Inspired.

This show is crammed packed with the most delicious ironies, from Dannielle saying Shilpa can't talk properly to Jack calling Shilpa a c***, when he is clearly the boyfriend of one of the biggest c***s of all!
craigiep

Oh Sweet Holy Mary...Okay...I capitulate...I throw myself at the feet and honour your vindication. We're never going to have closure on this until you're happy that I've accepted your point that at the time you thought it was just non-racist taunting.

Lord!

Actually, here's a point though...how come so many people could see what we couldn't see? When you posted your note I was generally in agreement with you. However, at the same time, about 7,500 people had complained about the show.

It would be good if bullying was treated on the same level as racism. Just about everyone I've spoken to at work, and outside have agreed that people like Jade et al, should be left to wither on the vine.

Fantastic.

Good riddance to people like that.
flip-flop

Yes, I completely agree...I laughed out loud at that ("He did not call her a p**i, he called her a c**t").

You can almost see the execs at CH4 in a meeting discussing it and deciding that calling a woman a 'c**t' is more acceptable than 'p**i'.

I absolutely can't wait for Jade's eviction tonight.

The Perfume Shop has taken her rancid scent off the shelves...this is a good thing, because believe me, it's horrific. My sister got it for Christmas...every time she wears it, she smells like tyres.
