Prince Willie having done his customary two weeks training has now been made an army "officer"

My maternal grandfather fought in the great war and was shot and mustard gassed in the great war and died still a private in his cockroach infested hovel in Burnley Lancs, he never had the luxury of knowing what a flush toilet was, to get washed he had to go to the public baths.

How can the people of this country be as ******* stupid as they are?

Indeed. My policy: don't join the army, if conscripted, fake insanity.
Clearly you have little understanding of how the army works operate. If you join as a grunt then you'll always be a grunt. If you do the officer training as the Prince and thousands of others have then when you graduate you are a 2nd Leutenant, simple!

You demonstrate very effectively why people are as &*^%$ stupid as they are! Ignorance dear boy ignorance.
Actually, Prince William was beaten to the 'Sword of Honour' prize by my friend Angela, who's the daughter of a teaching assistant and a printer who attended her local comprehensive school. Being brought up in a priviledged background doesn't get you everything. (And before you start to question whether this is tokenism, she's an outstanding athlete and an engineering graduate from Cambridge University).
An extra five grand a year for a private soldier wouldn't be amiss, and pro rata up the scale of command. Then spend extra on equipment for them, and sack the bean counters who say "No"

If it means paying more in tax, so be it. Our soldiers need to be valued more.
How dare you question willie boy being made an army officer .
Like all the previous Royals given a commision , it is purely on ability and merit . Its in the genes

He will be off to Iraq soon
So many of our Countrymen love to Bow the knee.

what instead of a monarchy?
Soley , an elected government ?
Oh yeah .... please note - I didn't say President
Little Willie has had a couple of weeks in training for
his job. Think now about our most senior politicians:
no training, no qualifications, nothing.....
We know our place!

Officers are bred not made, This can only come from the monied class who send their kids to private schools, who talk with an apple in their mouth, who play rugby not football and frequent the best establishments.
Bazile I thought we already had an elected government .And much good it has done too!!! (not).
I would like to answer Kwickie and say that in WW2 any aircrew member had opportunities to better themselves. My background was working class, my father was a stevedore in nearby docks and not having much finance to support the family. Nevertheless, by showing a good character and a traditional sense of honesty and good endeavour both he and I earned our commissions. Whether this applies nowadays, and I hope it does, I do not know.
I am sorry I omitted to say that the commissions referred to my elder brother and myself.
Prince William of to Iraq soon? HA HA HA HA HA you must be joking NO WAY. He, like Harry, will stay behind and play poker with his senior officers while the rest will be sent to fight Bush's war.
hopalong ... oh bless

I see that the true meaning behind my post has gone over your head ... eh?

Have you ever heard of sarcasm ?
Yes, I knew you where neing sarcastic but I still wnated to get my say
Poor old kwiky can't read. As I stated, Willie was beaten to a prize at Sandhurst by my mate Angela who attended one of our local comprehensive schools (actually one of the worst comprehensive schools in our region). Not a plum in sight.
I was speaking from personal experience! Obviously some regiments are different to others. You should speak to people who have been in cavalry regiments.
