Hi all, hope someone can help; we have tried 4 paper shredders, 3 made by fellowes and one from tescos and they all seem to give up after a few sheets. They all are supposed to shred up to 8 sheets at a time but struggle to get through 2 sheets . It is so annoying as I have taken them back each time spent more money getting a more expensive one but the same thing happens. Can anyone suggest a good shredder, we only use it now and again but want one that works. Many thanks.

I had the same problem and after the 4th cheap and cheerful one decided to talk to someone at a company that specialises in shredders. He told me two useful things: firstly, the blades need to be steel to have any kind of lifespan and secondly, the number of sheets is set for the US market who apparently use very thin paper compared to us in the UK, so for 8 sheets read 4.

I concluded that I would have to spend more money than I had been and ended up with an HSM which one year on is doing just fine. Im also much better at using the oil than I used to be, which is also more important than I realised.

This was a company I used:

Hope this helps.

Thanks ever so much, it gets so b*****y annoying having to take these back . Can you remember how much you paid for yours , we only need it to shred occaisionally things like old receipts and bank statements etc.

Oooops , forgot to say the last one was 59 quid and still didn't work !!!
I bought the WH Smiths shredder about a year ago, and its stll doing fine, Thought i'd mention it, as an option.
I ended up with an HSM 90 which I think was about 100. I didnt think I was going to be a big shredder either, but its surprising how many things you spot with your name on when youre looking. Nothing goes in my bin with my name or address on.

Many thanks to you both , I shall persevere !!!
You've probably already decided what you want, but if not, have a look on here.http://www.viking-direct.co.uk/landingPageDisp lay.do;jsessionid=0000JVRecGKXEkl1ool7VedVGOI: 11g06oige?nextURI=%2Fhome.do%3Fxref1%3Dgbglob
I have had a Fellowes shredder for many years, and they take a lot of sheets at once. I used to run a small business, and when I closed, I kept the shredder at home - still going strong. IIts worth ringing Viking up, and getting a price comparison, - also ask if there are any free gifts with it, or free gifts on offer this month.
Sorry, should have said "it" takes many sheets at once.
