Blunkett wrote in his diary that Brown sided with Blair in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq in fear of his job, is it any suprise to anyone? The only one in the cabinet with any backbone at the start of hostilities was Robin Cook.
If it`s true about Brown being under the thumb and thinking more for his job than for the lives of thousands in the conflict, then would we want him as the next Premier?
That`s if it`s true.

Probably more complicated than that.
If Brown had sided with Cook, it would have probably broght Blair down if not the entire government.
That would have presented Brown with a very difficult choice - back the war or bring down the government and be seen as the man who did so.
A number of people would have seen it as a deliberate action to further his own ambitions which might well have killed his own career.
Shame Robin Cook died though he would have been the only realistic challenger to Brown - Labour does have a habit of seeing it's best die early
