Whats the big deal about North Korea. Aren't the western media simply being paranoid and hypocritical? I mean surely we had to test our Nuclear weapons when we were developing them.?! no one kicked up a fuss then

lets just nuke them
The bit I've learned about North Korea is that the country is run by a dictator who is a little 'unstable', so with his finger alone on the button, it's not surprising there's a lot of concern over World Security.
NK is no big deal. It only justifies the budget set for defence by the US against the so called rogue states. So much rattle sabering sounds so familiar from the past fatal mistakes in foreign policy. But hey who cares? Apparently everybody who does not appease to this Loonie president in America is our enemy.
Its a big deal because Bush warned the President of North Korea against this sort of thing but he ignored him and went ahead anyway and now Bush is left looking a little foolish as no one seems to take him seriously, least of all a Communist leader.

What's ironic is that all bets were on Iran to do the provoking and set off another war or something similar...well maybe Bush won't have long to wait but I wonder if the response in that case would be a real war, or a spine-chilling, hair-raising war of 'words' that is going on with N.K. at the moment?

why dont we form a coalition force with the US and just storm in there looking for WMDs? Its not like we havent tried it before.
Yes it is paranoid and hypocritical of the USA and other imperialist countries to condemn the DPRK for testing a nuclear weapon. All countries - including small ones - have the right to defend themselves against attacks or invasions by aggressive warmongers.

It makes peace and security more likely in Korea, because the USA now knows that any nuclear attack on the DPRK will be met with like-for-like retailiation. If the USA is determined to destroy the socialist system of the DPRK, then so be it - but the DPRK will go down fighting and will take some of the imperilaist powers with it. The people and army of the DPRK, under the steadfast leadership of the WPK and the glorious leadership of the Dear Leader Kim Jong-Il, are united in determination to maintain the independence and self-determination of the DPRK.

It should be remembered that it is the USA, not the DPRK, which has (a) used nuclear weapons in warfare (b) threatened to use them as a first-use basis (c) invaded and bombed other countries (d) sold nuclear technology to other countries.

Long live the Democratic People's Republic of Korea!
Long Live the Workers' Party of Korea!
Long Live Kim Jong-il!
Celebrate the 80th anniversary of the Down-With-Imperialism Union!
I agree with zorro. Lets just blow their pathetic little country to bits anyway. Who needs North Korea?
The real problem with NK is that ina cold war scenario they have little to lose and are willing to die. The whole mutual destruction conundrum can be resolved by North Korea being willing to sacrifice themselves.
Also every country with nuclear weapons is decomissioning them slowly, but surely.
And finally North Korea has one of the largest and best trained armies, especially for its size and especially in Asia. America has been in as many wars as Britain, the main difference being we've won the recent ones so don't take the cheap route and jump on the anti-Bush wagon.
America has a lot of eues and pressure on them, they are decommisionign and will probs never use nukes unless they have too (cold war).
NK however is no stranger to war crimes and is a secret nation that has no eyes oin it and already has an international black mark so what is there to lose.

In the West we can mock and sneer but in Asia ther is a lot of nations that were already extremely vulnerablt to NKs huge army and are now totally helpless, assuming research continues. That my friends is the big deal.
it was predictable as soon as they were named as an axis of evil country and had some bank accounts frozen robbing the leader of many millions that they would seek some way to defend themselves from an attack that could potentially arise from the west ... you can't really blame them for being worried.
i think this is the result of the the western worlds stupid foreign policy
I fear that as a knee jerk reaction the USA/UK will take their flustration out on Iran.
The problem with North Korea is that their Dictator is, well slightly unhinged, and has absolute control over his country (unhinged - he claims to have his 11 holes-in-one in 1 round of golf and we all know I am the only one who has ever done that! and that children only catch colds in Korea because of the USA) He has subscribed 1 million people into his army and is paranoidly always plotting to quell an immanant phantom invasion/revolution. The west is worried this paranoia will turn into military action, and who knows agains who(Japan,South Korea,USA etc)
