Just wondering what your views are on the latest news that an office within Windsor Castle is to be used as a prayer room for Muslim staff - bearing in mind there is currently only one Muslim employee working within the Castle gift shop.

Apparently, it will still be used as an office when not being used for Prayer.

Excuse me folks - please don't make this thread into a playground slanging match - thank you.
I was under the impression that a prayer room was exactly that. If a firm creates one, then it is open for all religions. We had one at our place which the muslims used,I didn't see any christians fighting to get in though. Too many 'daily mail' readers on here

I wouldn't dream of slating anyone for reading their choice of newspaper - I find that very immature. Everyone to their own.

Back to the playground with you......
Ward Minister, I like it, Hi W~M Im glad the new ED hasn't banned you yet.

My religion is Jedi Knight (a recognised religion since the last census) and my work makes no provisions at all! They are very lucky at Windsor.
admarlow: no it's not.

Why anyone would be upset about the fact that an employer has set aside a small space to allow an employee to privately follow the tenets of their faith at intervals is a mystery. It's a matter of respect between employer and employee.
james, are you being racist to me? Just because you don't believe in something doesn't make it any less real for me! ha ha lol.
lol JamesEverton, see the whole world is against me, I always knew it!!!!

I don't think this particular concession is unreasonable, but I wonder if similar concessions would be made for those of other faiths, or those of no particular faith who make other reasonable requests.

If I asked to be able to visit a quiet room at work three times a day to preserve my sanity, I don't expect I'd be taken seriously. If I asked for the same concession for religious reasons, particularly if I was a Muslim, I'd be much more optimistic.

Requests seem to be taken much more seriously if they are required by religion. Tell people you don't want to 'celebrate' christmas and they still go on about it, tell them you're a Jehovah's Witness and don't celebrate christmas, and all of a sudden it's acceptable to them.

Comparing praying to drinking isn't really fair, as prayer doesn't necessarily impair one's ability to work, but I think it gets a bit more interesting when you compare having the occasional drink or two to observing Ramadan.
