Lebonon has been getting on with it for many years now, the people are getting used to peace. Beirut no longer resembles the shooting gallery it did in the 80's. So why now do those nutters in Hezbolah put the whole thing at risk by kicking Isreal? Now they're getting the sh1t kicked out of them by Isreal. What are they trying to acheive. The Lebanese government must be tearing it's hair out at the Hezbolah malitia, I just don't get it why are they so stupid? Why do they affect the lives of their own people in this way? Do they have support of the general public? Someone explain I just don't get it.

I don't see why it's all that inappropriate.

Sinn Fein have had seats in the Irish Parliament since the formation of the Republic.

The IRA constantly flipped over the border and back and despite the Irish Governments denounciation of them, there were constant allegations of gun running and support that went to the top.

NorAid collected massive funds in America be didn't bomb Dublin or Boston

I don't see the analogy is that inappropriate.

Loosehead you seem very free and easy with the lives of people in your support for bombings. Do you think you can just bomb terrorists or do you think that the means justifies the ends and if a few mothers and children have to die that's OK with you?

Question Author
Never said I supported bombings, the question was really trying to understand why Hezbollah et al would knowingly bring bombings upon themselves and their own civilians. They must take part of the blame, I know it's fashionable to blame Israel for everything but they just react to this sort of thing.

No one has answered the question yet, you all seem intent on avoiding it.
I thought I had answered the question. Hezbollah are as anxious to disrupt the secular Arab nation states as they are to provoke Israel and that's why they are happy to incite Israeli anger upon innocent Lebanese.
Okay, lets try and put this thing into perspective.

Start with Israel pulling out of Gaza, and in the process, leaving most of the buildings for the Palestinians. This was done, in the quest for peace.

No sooner had Gaza become available to the Palestinians, than they, ( Hezbolla), moved in and started firing rockets int israel, killing hundreds of Israeli civilians, Jews and Arabs, and this has never made the news over here.

Eventually, whats happening now, was bound to happen, the kidnapping of the soldiers was just the catalyst.

Hizbolla has achieved its aim, and is probably jumping for joy, because as usual, World opinion will turn against Israel.

A good post Loosehead, possibly a bit strong, but good.

in answer to your question, as there are in and about 9000 palestinian prisoners being held, 1700 or so being lebanese citizens being held with no due process whatsoever. the idea of capturing the israeli soldiers was to prompt a prisoner exchange. on two previous occasions the german government mediated this successfully through negotiations. unfortunately president bush visited germany today on his way to the g8 summit, no doubt to quell this notion. and then the u.s. with it's veto power killed the u.n. security council resolution that stated israel's response is inapropriate, thus giving israel a green light. to make it even more farcicle the israeli's have captured 10 hamas democracticly elected government officials and a few civilian cabinet members, and there has been nothing really said. guess they are not the right democratily elected officials, so it is okay. before anybody jumps me with the (their terrorists) remember that the israeli government was recently lead by the (butcher of beruit) the man responsible for the very well documented death squad unit 101, they practically invented terrorism, ariel sharon. he committed mass murder and should have been tried as a war criminal, instead he was elected prime minister. the syrian government has tried three times in the past three years to have peace talks with israel, they have flatly refused. my guess is israel is about to earn the two billion in u.s. aid it has gotten every year by sucking syria and iran into the big (event) that with lies and misinformation they have been pushing for all along.
i just watched the late edition of my nightly news and sadly and ashamedly had to listen to my recently elected prime minister stephen harper(although he didn't get my vote) publicly admit he has joined the dark side. even though the rest of the civilized world thinks that israel's response is dispreportionate, our man stephen is parroting george. but i guess we won't have to worry about the military bases they were mentioning they were going to build on our side of the border recently, for a while anyway. as apparently we haven't been protecting it well enough. the propanganda machine is in high gear, all i heard was the words syria and iran being put into the mouth's of every guest on the program. as dom tuk stated earlier i think a lot of innocent women and children are about to be far worse off than the horrible existence they had yesterday. i feel very ashamed, who are we anyway, what gives us the right?
Perhaps public opinion would back Israel a bit more if they didn't bomb other countries and kill civillians in those other countries whilst chasing terrorists.

They also developed Weapons of Mass destruction despite being a signatory to the Geneva protocol.

Strangely George bush seems in no hurry to invade them
sadly what you are saying is true but the fact is untill the lebanese goverment can stand on its own two feet millitarlly they can not stop these millitias from operating, that help has to be hpysical in terms of weapons ets. and political as well.
the long term solution which i rarely hear anyone talking about is why and what drives a person to leave his family and commit suicide because lets face it ,not every person that commits an act as ugly as this is insane and beleive me i know. so the causes for this are not being adressed ,and we have to be honest to ourself and search our souls for these answers.people on the other side slso have children and wives and families that they love , so we should use that as a common ground to start from and try and live with each other without using dictators to as excuses to go and rip other countries of their wealth
Look, Im lebanese okay what Israel are donig is just idiotic because lebanon doesnt desever this harsh treatment by a stupid action taking by stupid groups, the citzen's of lebanon are dieing each day, what can a citzen do? nothing what im getting my point is that what Israel is trying to do is not take back ther soldier back but take over lebanon.
Beliefs, i think, sometimes reign superior to what is right and wrong. In this case the Hezbollah wants to jeopardize the Lebanese to acheive what they beleive is a moral and ethical victory over the Isrealis. The Middle Eastern countries have never wanted the Isrealis to be in that region because Isreal alligns with the U.S. imperialistic west. This scares that region as much as having Al Quaeda or Hezbollah as the name of a neighboring Canadian Province. The U.S. would try to push them out too. The only way to explain the idiotic atrocities of waring anywhere is to say that beliefs clash guns flash. Look at every war and the root of the cause was a clash of beliefs. Isreal took Hamas leaders and detained them, so what. Hezbollah took two Isreali soldiers, who cares. The beliefs of Isreal and other surroounding arrab nations have been different for centuries starting with the bible, go figure. No one is ever content.
