So there is this town where:

1) Loads of immigrants don't support the English football team (and in fact hope they lose)

2) The crime rate is very high

3) I can barely understand them

4) Only 63% of the adult population are employed

5) Almost 40% of the population between 16 and 74 had NO qualifications.

6) Almost 70% of the population of the town are either immigrants or children of immigrants

Name that town

why? oh my god, do you mean someone has the temerity not to support england? shoot them all i say
1. So what? It's so important, football, aint it?
2. Define "very high" and then define "crime" and then give me a town that is below this particular stat.
3. Why, are you thick?
4. Is this 63% of the adult population that are eligible for work, or does it include pensioners, incapacitated, disabled, sick, etc?
5. Really. What is "almost"? Are you talking GCSEs? What? I bet you don't know.
6. So what?
1, 3 & 6 could be Corby
...and 5.
I reckon its somewhere in India!!
Merthyr Tydfil?
So where is it ?
So what is the "trouble?"
"The crime rate is very high" what is it then?

"Only 63% of the adult population are employed" - the average in England & Wales is 60.6%

"Almost 40% of the population between 16 and 74 had NO qualifications" - the average for England & Wales is 29.1% but there are 17 authorities worse than Corby.

It's interesting that the first thing you think to mention is the England football team...........

Fogot to mention that in their native country, they have just attacked English people including children.

It is indeed Corby

Just wondering when the front page of the Daily Mail will read "P*** off the Scots"
vic making those comments when one hundred of yir countrymen have been arrested in Stuttgart for hurling bottles and chairs at police and passers-by is ironic, do you not think?

That is what I would call "more trouble with immigrants"

Corbyloon - my post is meant to be ironic. A lot of the posts on answerbank seem to revolve around immingrants being bad people. When people mention immigrants, they (often / usually) refer to Black or Asian people. I was trying to point out (as I have constantly done before) that if you take any type of statistic, you can make any type or group of people look bad.

All too often, people stereotype others into groups: wooly liberals, do gooders, black, asian, scottish, ginger haired etc etc.

My point was trying to illustrate that you can make statistics back up your own arguments - most people will not have a problem with Scottish people - but if a paper started making racist claims and highlighting 'problems' then evryone seems to jump on the bandwagon. The best recent example is the current 'knife culture' which is absolutely terrible! of course, the figures from 1991 and 2005 are almost identical, but since the paper says it is worst, it must be true!
Christ alive Vic this whole thread is a bit slanted and "off" isn't it? Those are read them how you please statistics, which can be chopped and swivelled aout to mean anything you like. For example 40% of 16-70 year olds have no qualifications, well bearing in mind that statistically the number of that group is likely to be made up of a lot of 65 plus people that's fairly understandable isn't it, as for some there were no qualifications upon leaving mainstream school at 15 and for a lot more in less skilled jobs such as labouring and shop work, going to college and gaining qualifications they'd never use would be a complete waste of their time.Doesn't mean any of those people are stupid or less worthy than your good self. I have a history degree but I never use it either when I'm selling cars or renovating houses so I'd be as well off without it except for my own personal satisfaction.Qualifications mean sod all in the big scheme of things and lay off the Scots they're a great people and no more of a problem than the English, Welsh, Irish or anyone else.
The irony was lost on me vic and others it seems, in the circumstances I think I was very restrained in ma replies.
Sorry Vic, started to post and didn't see your post above as I got called away by the kids and finished it when I got back:) Thought it was a bit much for you.
