In view of the McCartney marriage/divorce, would it not be better if only earnings and assets made during the marriage count towards settlement in divorce? This would stop 'gold diggers' getting their hands on money and assets obtained beforehand. I think it's wrong that someone who has only been married for a couple of years should be entitled to half the money that has been earned over many years.

I completely agree Kathyan. I challenge anyone to provide a reasonable argument for why Heather M should be entitled to a divorce settlement of 200million.

Well I suppose it's all relative ~ doesn't Macca earn something stupid like a million every hour? if this is the case then Heather will be left short changed ;o)

Seriously though..yes I agree. There should be some kind of criteria. My husband was married to a woman for 3 years (6 officially) and she did absolutely nothing but take ~ he had to pay spousal maintenance to her until she remarried too..which is almost unheard of unless you earn Donald Trump salary (which he doesn't!!).

Pippa68 - can go one better than that. My brother's wife was unfaithful to him and wanted him out. He did the gentlemanly thing and left her and the kids to live in the house and still had to pay her maintenance, even tho her new partner lived there. And no, it wasn't just maintenance for the kids. Its like Jim davidson said "instead of getting married again, hes gonna find a woman he doesn't like and just give her a house"
I agree with you guys/gals. I think prenuptials are a great idea for people wanting to protect whats there's. Any potential spouse who doesn't want to sign one would send up "gold digger" red flags. I think Macca was stupid not to get Heather Mills to sign one. She says she offerd to sign one but i'm not convinced. When Macca dies you know most of his cash was going to charitys and now theres 200 million less thats going there way. I know Heathers a big fan of charity but i wonder what she'll do with her half of his cash. If she's not a gold digger then she should give it ALL to charity as soon as she gets it.

Funny that ali_alic my husband did the same thing ~ he left her at her request...he had to rent a bedsit, pay the mortgage/bills/maintenance for her & his daughter and she moved one of her fellas in! and he did this all for the sake of peace, not knowing that she would continue to screw him by way of hitting his wallet.

Whe I met him he was malnourished from lack of food. It was heartbreaking. Because of situations like this I don't feel that sorry for men like Macca. At least he will still have money to buy food.

It seems that the women always get what they want out of a divorce. When my parent split up (when i was 12) it went really strange. My mum actualy wanted my dad to take care of me and my bro as we were an inconveniance to her "Life Style" She still screwed him for half the house (he got to keep it as he had to look after us, but had to give her half it's value) and maxed out all the joint credit cards and accounts before vanishing with her new man. She's never paid a penny in any sort of child maintenance.
It was Paul McCartney who said Heather Mills had offered to sign a prenup but he refused to get one drawn up. It's his money (or was...) and he was happy with that arrangement.

With a fortune estimated at over 800,000,000 he has more money than he could ever spend. I should imagine right now they are both more concerned about the future custody of their daughter.
