What are the views of ABers on the news that yet another person who has converted from Islam to Christianity has been sentenced to death?
I am happy for all people to choose their own faith, or no faith.
Why cannot Islam extend the same to others?

Because they are generally intollerant of any idea that conflicts with their own.

before this kicks off again, can we just make a distinction between Islam and Islamic fundamentalist.

I am fairly confident (and no, I haven't read the Koran) that Islam does not dictate death to any man, whereas the fundamentalists twist their religion to their own end.

Dead right Englishbird as do all fundamentalists of any religious persuasion be they Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Hindu etc etc etc, it goes on.

'yet another person who has converted from Islam to Christianity'???

Eh? What others have there been? I didn't realise that this was an ongoing news story. Or is it another Daily Mailism?

I am a happy christian and I am bored with these stories blown out of proportion ......yawn.....

What did you think of the Budget - or sorry wrong thread.... yawn....I'll go back to sleep.

Englishbird, So what is the distinction. Islam is attacking people in the Far East, the Near East, Europe, America and almost everywhere else. Suicide bombers have attacked in 20 countries ALL the bombers were Muslim, just a few Fundies ? My opinion? It's the 95% of Muslims who give the rest a bad name.

Just been looking for some stats to back up what I mean, it's proving hard to find anything that tells me exactly how many people have been killed by suicide bombers. But I stand by saying that Islam is not an aggressive religion it is most definitely the minority that use a perverted interpretation to that end. Most Muslims find any type of killing as abhorrent as most of us.

However, and I know this is a bit off track, I came across a hideous article by a christian magazine ... I don't think it's intended to be funny, but this line has just made me laugh out loud

" .... In July last year, he welcomed Sheikh Yusef Al-Qaradawi to London, prompting protests from Sikhs, Hindus, Jews, and homosexuals"

Sorry about this, I'm sure this is going to upset someone, but all is solved .... this guy has the answers ....

"We say in the briefing paper 'Understanding Islam' that the answer to the problem of Islams ambition and Islamic terrorism in Britain is Jesus. Our Queen needs to proclaim a day of prayer to Almighty God for protection in the mighty name of Jesus. Only God can thwart terrorists and bring their plans to nothing, as He did so miraculously on 21/7. Next, our Government should state that this was, is and shall remain a Christian nation. Christianity is the religion of the United Kingdom, and they should listen to God and begin once more to trust the Bible for lawmaking. The whole nation should repent and turn back to God, but those in power and authority have to lead the way.

Will that happen? Even the first step, a day of prayer in the name of Jesus, would mean consigning 'multi-culturalism' to the scrap-book of history where it belongs, and would see our politicians in a posture of humility before the Sovereign of the Universe. God can work miracles. It is at least, worth praying for, and writing to our MPs to suggest.

I just wish that more people were practising Christians. It would then feel a Christian nation. But low attendance in Church's. Even Churches being turned into homes. Christmas is now about shopping, Easter is about Eggs and bunnies. Let us put into action what we preach if we really believe the bible and the 10 commandments.

sp18 - there are lots of cases in various islamic countries where someone has converted to christianity and had to pay a heavy price...often with their lives or at best complete alienation from the entire family and circle of friends.

I think think the 'Islamic' cultures and communities that behave in this way obviously feel some kind of insecurity to their faith and way of life that they have to terrify people into sticking to their copious rules and regulations.

hmm, maybe my sarcasm was too subtle.
The muslims that have gone to christianity haven't converted, they've seen the light, thats all. I think it just shows how barbaric and archaic some of these muslims are going about killing folk because they've decided Islam is wrong for them.
Plonker- never mind about empty churches, the priesthood is in crisis because not enough young people are entering the priesthood, I heard that in Scotland there are only 830 priests to serve 800,000 Scots who are practising Catholics, and over half of that 830 are over 50!

At least you can feel free to be sarcastic about Christians !

Not all churches have falling attendances, some (like the one I attend) are actually growing.

I'm not sure that amyone has actually answered the question, why do some people - of any faith - feel the need to stop others having free choice ?

(talking only about our presenttime not history)
Brionon- why don't you back up your opinion, as to why you think its 95% of muslims that are the problem? And its not Islam attacking other countries, its terrorists who happen to be muslim, brainwashed by the fanatics/fundamentalists of their religion. Most of the times, it is not even about religion as it is about politics.

silly moo- regarding your question, can you please provide a link for the story? I would like to know the facts before I mak any comments, although I do not and will not, defend the people who have sentenced a man to death simply on the basis of his religion.

On a side note, a lot of the Islamic countries are undemocratic, with the people being ruled by an authoritarian govt. This sort of repression puts the fanatics in power and harbors intolerance.

Look at the state of Iraq which has diverse sects in the same religion - and because of this, its on the brink (or already there?) of civil war! Its not the case everywhere though, lots of other dominantly muslim countries have lots of christians living alongside muslims, ie- the palestinians in Israel, as well as Syria,Egypt, Lebanon etc.

This is a much earlier story -

A search on the net will probably produce more similar stories - although most are actually charged with what we would call evangelism.
Silly moo, yes those news reports are terrible and it is not right. But the country concerned is at war. There is killing and fighting and complete unrest. What can you expect? Harmony? WHile there is a war in the country?
Also, the Jehovah Witness and other Christian organisations are targeted in Eastern Europe by other Chrisitan Sects. We dont get to hear because it is not considered high profile. There has been terrible news all over the world with religions involved. Look at N.Ireland. What is that all about? You are right - No one should force anyone a religion but some people seem to have no choice whether they be Chrisitan or any other religion. But yest, the death threats by some fanatical leaders are dreadful. They do not represent the majority. They should not be listened to either..
Any persons giving death threats should be locked up. They have no god given right. Yes, how dare they give death threats to anyone! Unfortunatley, most of them seem to be these hypocritical muslim leaders. Nobody wants these stirrers of hatred. So when they bring it here it should be removed promptly before the ignorant followers get out of hand. If these muslims really practice what they preach, they would not be taking the life of others. They misuse their religion for whose benefit?
