Quick question, in city areas where it is illegal to drink alcohol on the streets (theyve just banned it in my city), is it legal to drink alcohol covered in a brown paper bag as depicted in American culture (films etc)?!

I thought it was illegal to drink in public anywhere without a license in the UK?
no its not generally illegal to drink alcohol in a public place although some local authorities have brought in specific bans in specific areas. It is illegal to sell drink without a licence.

There are designated places where you cant drink alcohol
in most towns in the uk.there is normally a sign saying so.But you dont need a licence to drink in other areas, Where would you get a licence, the off licence?

And I dont think it would make any difference if you hid it in a brown paper bag or a pink paper bag, illegal is illegal....(:)

Sorry to debunk the myth, but you are not allowed to drink alcohol openly in American streets - even if its in a paper bag! the reason why cops may turn a blind eye to people drinking like this is because they are usually bums and they are more concerned with catching speeders or people shooting eachother.

Metagirl- in the UK the Police would be more interested in catching the 'Speedsters' as you call them- they wouldn't bother with people shooting each other- too much like hard workr!
