I have done the best I can re pressies, which you know I don't like but I have done my best - just tonight I have passed £700  cash to whatever siblings, nephews and a few small presies.  but don't think it is is enough.

No matter what I do - it is never enough for me.  Tomorrow is Xmas Eve and I hope to get certain things done but whilst have paid some hundreds - hundreds well another two hundreds I won't be able to get to them.  They are chronic gamblers and as I have said last year they paid £60,000 to the bookies, yet they have no food, gas electric  just nothing - just a roof in complete darkesss - as in the Grim Reaper in their rooms.  Now it is their turn to get the money and I don't know whether to give them the money or a good feeling hamper as in very cooked food.  My heart is breaking.  I just dont know what to do any more.  One lad will be on his own on Xmas day - and the other will be too -

so should it be cash or hamper of good food

I'm all ears jinny, fire away!

^ That wasn't there when I posted!

Question Author

you ask me to fire away but I need answers Ellie

Sorry jinny, when I posted that I hadn't seen your problem

If they are chronic gamblers it's best not to give them money, the food hamper sounds a good idea plus maybe vouchers that you think would make their lives easier

Good food.

thanks for the ans3r Ellie

I would get food essentials. Bread eggs milk chicken vegetables and fruit.  Rice, pasta, beans, ready made soups.

you know in your head that if you give money it will be gambled away. Go with your head not your heart and have yourself a lovely Christmas

Don't feed their gambling habits but a hamper of food  will at least help them over the next few days. Whatever you do don't let them know how much money you have. £700 is an awful lot of money to spend on presents. You say-'but don't think it's enough.' Who doesn't think it's enough?

they are broken-hearted mentally ill men.  I may go halfers - give them some half cash and some half food.  That's all I can  think of.

As I said previously, why not get vouchers for something you think would be useful to them instead of giving money, at least they can't waste them

Where on earth did they get £60,000 from to use on gambling ?

maybe from gambling, andres - people win sometimes!

But yes, as others have said - feed them by all means, but don't feed their gambling habit. You can take some responsibility for keeping them alive if you want, but don't take any responsibility for their addiction.

jno^^^  jinny says they are sitting in a room without gas, electric or food so they've probably given it all back to the bookies.

No

I wouldn't even spend a tenth of that on anybody!

Don't, just don't give them money. Doesn't help them and just feeds their habit.

oh, I'm sure they have, andres! In the long run you can't beat the house.

I agree with Pasta and think giving money is only making matter worse.

Of course they are likely to plead with you for money, but I would only pay for food or pay an energy bill direct to company. I would nor trust that the money might be gambled.

In the long run, they need help to overcome this addiction.  Do they acknowledge they have problem?

I hope you can relax and have good Christmas Jenny!
