I think he's an idealist rather than a realist.

the "realist" position of course being to support genocide if the right people are doing it

the essay is nuanced and a good reminder that the present far-right israeli government does not represent all israelis or even represent all zionist jews. it is perfectly possible to support israel as a country without supporting what it is doing in gaza.

I think it's truthful and excellent. I  read through it twice.

From the article:" I’m not sure how to answer that question except to say it was bound to happen eventually.  "

I wrote words very much like that regarding 7 October which ended up with me being accused of being a Jew hater by a group of nasties.  It was indeed a very predictable situation.

But the people in Gaza don't support israel as a country.

So...we are where we are.

There is a lot of truth in it but it so often stops half way.  All those young people he mentions who have never known anything other than Hamas in control, has he considered the education they're getting?  What have they had drilled into them?  Any guesses?

Untitled, your obsession with genocide continues despite the fact that it isn't happening.   Realism is acknowledging reality.  None of us want innocent people killed - we're all with him in that one.

and therefore... what? kill them all? displace them?

israel hasn't done itself any favours here. it has oppressed gaza for years, frequently murdered innocent people (including using live rounds on peaceful demonstrators) and worked hard to prop up hamas. it is not surprising that so many gazans are hostile to it and those are circumstances which hamas takes advantage of.

@16.36.But the civilised world managed to smash the anti-semitic Nazi terrorists back in 1945,countrylover.Surely the civilised world can also do the same to the modern day Nazis(the Hamas terrorists)nowadays. After the Nazis were smashed in 1945 they never rose to prominence again,if we smash these Hamas terrorists now ,hopefully they will never rise to prominence again either.

what is happening in gaza is genocide.

The problem is, ynna, there are so many more just like them.  They aren't alone - and they don't lack support among the civilian population either.

Untitled, we've been there.  It isn't.

Untitled

what is happening in gaza is genocide.

If that's true, how many genocides are currently happening worldwide?

And why are you silent on those genocides?

@16.54.All started by the Hamas terrorists on 7th October.Until the civilised world finally smash these Jew hating Nazis, like we did back in 1945 to another bunch of Nazi Jew haters this problem will recur time and time again.

because they are not to my knowledge being celebrated or endorsed by prominent people in my own country roy.

naomi - all you ever say is "it isn't it isn't it isn't". you will recall that gazans were instructed to evacuate to khan younis for their own safety - hundreds of thousands did exactly that. Israel has now surrounded that city, killed dozens of journalists to hide from the world what it is doing, and is savagely attacking a city it knows to be full of evacuees. it has attacked hospitals and provided no evidence at all that they are "hamas command centres" and has in fact been caught lying about it. you know it's genocide and i know it's genocide - the difference is that you agree with it and won't say so in writing.

All of this started by the Hamas terrorists on 7th October,Untitled.Maybe the Hamas terrorists think things through first before they start their anti-semitic Jew hating wars.

except it didn't "all start" on october the 7th did it. The history is longer than that.
