the israeli military has instructed families in gaza city to go south to avoid the bombardment... this family did as they were told and according to this report 13 of them were killed anyway because an airstrike hit their shelter... the young girl being interviewed says she is the only one left.

There are more than two sides to this. Also, it's possible to defend a country without inflicting war crimes on innocent people, especially children and babies ...

The West Bank ...volatile and increasingly simmering at the moment ... travel not advised ... but that aside, how many and where are they to be accommodated?

Question Author

they are citizens of the palestinian authority naomi so they would settle in the areas of the west bank controlled by the PA. most gazans have family connections in the west bank.

a much better solution than killing them en masse.

Hamas have repeatedly told Gazans that what Israel has told them about going south and be safer is a lie and they need to stay put.  That is so they have their human shield.  They only really know what Hamas tells them and many of their  Islamic Imams are pro Hamas and so tell them the same.  They have been told it was Israel that started all of this and so believe it.  Hamas are not worried if they bomb the Gazans.  They then just say it was the Israelis and having no way to find the truth they believe them.  Fear of Hamas is what keeps many of them in line with what they are told.

Question Author

"Israel has told them about going south and be safer is a lie and they need to stay put"

the family in my OP went south as they were instructed and were all killed.

How many untitled?

What is the Palestinian government doing to protect it's own civilians?

But probably safer than staying in Gaza.  If you are going to copy a piece I have put then please use the whole sentence and not just the bit you want just to make it sound sorse.  I think you know that but it doesn't suit.

Question Author

how many? as many as possible. they are citizens of the palestinian authority and should be allowed to move there.

stableford - gaza is legally part of the palestinian authority but is not controlled by it because of the hamas coup in 2007. At present the PA is powerless.

Worse that should have been.

untitled, I spoke to you elsewhere about a news report I watched last week where Gazans in the West Bank were trying to get home so your idea might not be the best.

Question Author

it's better than just killing them

"unfortunately this author seems unaware that israel supported hamas for years for political reasons so the chain of responsibility here is not quite so clear cut. "

I'm certain that Thomas Theiner knows the history of the Middle East better than any of us and would right claim that that brief alliance (which I think predates the formation of Hamas proper and was for political expedience as these things always are) is totally irrelevant.

Civilians have also been prevented in some cases from leaving by Hamas who have very irresponsibly urged people not to head south.

Add that to Israel's aerial bombardment and what indeed.

Maybe Israelis, who ARE targeted on a daily basis, should leave also

Question Author

they are still better off there than anywhere in Gaza right now.

Untitled, but maybe not tomorrow.  It's a pointless argument.

"would right claim that that brief alliance (which I think predates the formation of Hamas proper and was for political expedience as these things always are) is totally irrelevant. "

then he would be wrong. the "brief alliance" lasted decades and hamas would not be where it is now without it. even israeli intelligence officials who oversaw this refer to it now as a mistake. furthermore haaretz reported last week that netanyahu wanted continuing support for hamas for the same political reasons as recently as 2019...

the thinking was that propping up hamas would keep the palestinian leadership divided and that the government was willing to tolerate the occasional rocket attack from gaza and even benefit politically from "mini wars". this idiotic and neglectful policy enormously facilitated hamas and led directly to the october 7th massacres.

Aye Israel's fault.

MI5 file must be growing by the hour.

Who could not be sympathetic with that young girl ?

is this another case of collateral damage ?
